My 04 TL 49k miles with tranny problem

I've been in and out of the dealership 3 times this week already to have a leak check out. My first visit they claim that my power steering fluid hose was loose and it has been fixed. The next day i notice the same leak in my garage. The next trip to the dealership, they said the tranny fluid hose was loose and it has been put back and fixed. The next day i notice the same leak in my garage.

My trip back to the dealership yesterday, my service advisor said he wants to keep the car overnight so they can figure out what's leaking. Late yesterday I got a call from him notifying that the leak is coming from my transmission and that my transmission will need an overhaul. My car has only been out of warranty for 4 months and hasn't even hit 50k miles yet and already my tranny needs to be rebuild (for lack of a better word) I do not have extended warranty of any sort and I am sure this will cost a arm and a leg. However my service advisor told me that he will speak to his manager on Monday to see if they can do a good will repair. If I am not mistaking, isn't the tranny cover for 7 years and 100k? This shouldn't even be a good will repair and be cover under warranty correct?

Should I try asking them to replace the tranny or have them fix it? I am worry that if they try to fix it, it may cause more problems in the near future. If you were in my situation how would you handle this?

If it does need to replaced, I would think they would replace the trans with another that's been rebuilt. Faster and easier.
I guess no extended warranty, so hopefully they do the job as a good will gesture.

The dealer does not rebuild transmissions they replace them only. The warranty length changed in either 2006 or 2007 to 70,000 miles. Yours is only for 50,000. They will likely do goodwill and might ask you to pay $x.xx dollars. Considering the time period, I think I'd try for them to pay it all. Be nice, let us know the outcome.

Yeah.. be nice.. but again, some service managers can be real pricks and will want you to pay $$xxx.xx or xx% of the repair no matter what. That's why it matters which dealer you take it too. If they didn't notice that it was your tranny the first few times I'd take it to another shop. It sounds like either the seal or the case has failed. Did you notice rough shifting?? Did you hit anything recently?

The car has never been into any major accidents. Only 1 accident when I got rear ended and with only damage to the rear bumper. I bought the car from this dealership and they have performed all the routine maintenance on my car since day 1. In regards to rough shifting, I did notice it sometimes when it downshifts, but it was very light. I was going to get the dealership to perform a trans fluid flush on this visit. I will update tomorrow when the service advisor calls me back.

I suspect that since you bought the TL from the dealer they should treat you well and goodwill any work. They always seem to try to gouge me on work but ever so often they are fair and honest with me (maybe b/c the know I can smell the B.S.). I am very skeptical how they didn't find the problem in the first place. A leaky tranny should be very easy to spot and shouldn't have been confused with a leaking P/S hose / pump. You'll know if it's tranny fluid if it was recently filled because it will be a ember red.. almost like grape cough syrup. If it hasn't been changed in a while then it will more than likely be as dark as used motor oil.

In my experience, transmissions can seep a little but to drip fluid like that is bad and there's probably a failed seal or case involved. A-Spec TL says tranny's don't fail that fast but if you search the threads.. many members have encountered failed tranny's in less than 10k miles. I believe there's a 3G member who is on their 3rd or 4th. These trannies seem to be only somewhat better than the previous generation which were recalled. Keep us updated.

I've ask the service advisor twice if he's 100% it's the tranny and he said "yes" and that the technician even showed him where it's leaking from. I was surprise myself when he told me it was the tranny leaking and had my doubts also. Should I ask them to look at it again? Should I bring it to a different dealership to get a second opinion? I am not 100% sure what color it was to be honest, I am not very car savy and didn't take this into consideration when checking the leak and since the leaking spots has turn black.

I've started another thread seeking advice on getting a goodwill repair from corporate acura since my dealership stated that they are no longer offering goodwill repairs due to the slumps in sales. Please see the link below

From what im saying is that the car is driven correctly and service on with the right fluid there should be a problem at 49k miles. An old man or woman driving is the example im trying to make. My friend Tl has almost 200k miles and had no problem with it at all and he's the first owner of the vehicle. Thanks for the comment.

Let me rephrase this: From what im saying is that the car is driven correctly and service on time with the right fluid there shouldn't be a problem at 49k miles.
