from the front or rear?

metallic squeaking or dragging might indicate low brake pad material.
there is a prong that sticks out and once the pad material reaches that prong, you'll get a metallic squeak

^ But he would only hear that when he was braking.

Maybe a bent brake shield?

Most likely the wear indicator on a brake pad is dragging on the rotor. Visually inspect the pads, the wear indicator is generally on the inside pad at the bottom and can be hard to inspect without removing wheels.

Has any service been performed recently? It's usually really easy to determine whats causing the sound if you are familiar with what causes them. I'd say low brake pads or possibly a bent dust shield if a wheel was off recently.

Yep, if the brake pads are worn enough, the indicators will grind w/ the rotor regardless whether or not you're braking. My sister's civic did the same thing.

Need new brake pads... and don't drive with the scraping for long or you'll need new rotors too :P:

Check brake dust shield. This was bent on my son's TL-S. Or brake pad was installed backward. But I'd go with the bent brake dust shield.
