I am trying to diagnose a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear, I would like to believe it is a mount issue, but might be the actual transmission, not sure. However, I am replacing the transmission mounts anyways.
Question:
The two lower mounts have bolts that go through the frame and thus cannot be removed without raising the transmission about 3", I was told to undo the upper mount, but I am still not 100% sure about jacking up the transmission? It just doesn't feel safe, has anyone done this? I dont wanna break something

 

its perfectly fine jacking up the transmission...i've done it before when changing my motor mounts and transmission mounts
