Stiff steering + Insurance + tearing into steering column.

Stiff steering + Insurance + tearing into steering column.
As the title states, my insurance company thinks that the stiff steering at parking lot speeds is a problem.
they want to tear into the steering wheel column to find out what the problem is.
Now, I have a 6MT.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS had stiff steering at parking lot speeds.
I usually just tap the gas to activate the pump, so i can have steering.
But the shop is adamant in tearing into the steering column.
HELP!
What should I do? I honestly think its fine....they think otherwise.
Picture is related.

Tell them to test drive another TL if they don't believe you.

^thanks GP.
after talking to numerous tl people, they all confirmed that its supposed to be like that. I also remember it being that stiff before the accident.
i called them back and said, HEY, I WANT MY CAR TODAY.
that was at 1030am. he said he'll go ahead and prep the car for delivery.
its now 350pm. so most likely, i'll get it back tomorrow.

why? you should never have to pay for anything related to the accident except your deductible. it's their responsibility to check things that MAY BE RELATED to the accident and IF ITS NOT then they just eat the diagnostic fee. your insurance company is crap.

Justin, even though the TL's steering is pretty stiff, raising the rpms should not make a difference. It for sure is not in the column, no chance. But you may want to look into the pump if it bothers you. Maybe try the Amsoil fluid, it made my steering more consistent from slow parking lot speeds to normal speeds and more consistent from cold to hot.
FWIW, I've owned the car since new and I've never had to raise rpms to get an increase in assist even at a dead stop. I can't remember for sure but you bought yours used, right? It might have a small problem that you're not aware of, something it had when you bought it. Sometimes if that o-ring is letting air into the system if can cause the problem you're having but if I remember right you already did that.
I wouldn't want them digging into the column because I've seen many of them screwed up from disassembly and because there's a 99% chance it's not in the column. The column doesn't care if the car is stationary or going 100mph but the hydraulic system does. You don't have an under-drive pulley, right?
