Is this the factory fill or have you changed your oil once already?

maybe it wasnt full from the factory. if you checked it yourself at one point and it was full and then low then yes, its going somewhere, but if this is the first time you checked it then it might not have been full from the start.

Just fill to the full mark on level ground and monitor.
I bet your true consumption is near zero.

My '05 has the same consumption
I was actually surprised that my '05 has used more that 1/2 qt. at about 2000 miles. I rationalized that the initial fill is most likely to show some oil consumption as the rings seat etc.
The owners manual says to keep the original fill in for the full 100% indication. I'm not sure if I will since the oil is quite dark at 2500 miles. Has the dealer indicated that the initial fill is a breakin oil?
Just wondering...

Mark, I live around 17 mile & Mound. Maybe we bought our car from the same dealer???? Jeffery Acura/Honda???? 10/31/05. Thats odd you are from the very same aera???? I got my oil changed at 3000 miles, and the manager told me to keep it changed every 3750 miles if you are buying your TL. First oil change at 5500 miles, It's gotta have metal flakes in there??? Get'em out.

Early Oil Change
Hi Ilanoraa,
My TL came from Acura of Troy on 10/06/05. It's still a baby. I'm in the 15 mile & Southfield area.
I don't know why the manual suggests a full 5000 miles for the first oil change unless there is a special oil. But that has never been mentioned anywhere I have seen. Guess I'll do a 3000 mile or so change too.
And that gets to another question... why should the TL use 5w20 weight oil. How can that be better than 5w30? I'd guess it's just for a quick warm up and some emission thing. Maybe it helps Honda get the ULEV rating or just a bit better MPG. It can't be better for the engine!!?? Or can it? Won't a 5w20 weight oil also be consumed more quickly?
Our turbo VW uses 5w40 to maintain good oil film thickness.
Questions are easy to ask, harder to answer.
Thanks,
Mark

Old thread...
My '07 TL-S has just over 2000 miles and it has lost just over 1 quart of oil (oil level now is a little beneath the cross-hatch area). Note that I check the oil level with every tank of fuel, and at 250 miles the engine was indeed filled completely with oil.
I accept that relatively high oil consumption is somewhat normal during the first couple thousand miles, but I'm curious what other TL-S owners have experienced (if you've even checked your oil)?
My '06 TSX consumed about a quart of oil over the first 4000 miles, and that consumption dropped to nothing by the time the car had 12000 miles.
I need to top the oil off but I am not sure if I should endeavor to purchase a special kind of oil. Do the dealers typically have the "factory fill" oil on hand?

its just regular oil with some chemical compound that starts with an M, it reduces wear on the motor during break in and is supposedly responsible for the loss in power and oil/gas consumtion during the break in.

Using oil can have to do with driving style (although it doesn't sound like it in this case).
It seems odd for a honda engine to use that much oil when new(er).
I would think something is wrong but you may have to wait for it to get more serious to prove it.
Just keep a close eye on it.
I always get back out just what I put in my 2004 with 24000 miles.
My LS1 corvette is a different story, but hey, at least it has a sensor for low oil -- wonder why the acura doesn't? (all cars have a light that comes on when you have one quart left, but the vette told on itself when it was 1/2 quart low.)
