Loud plastic sounding shifter?

Hello everyone,

I just recently purchased my 06 TL 6speed with Navi a week and a half ago. I am taking it into the dealer today to get the a-spec package put on, but I think I am going to ask them to look at a couple other things and I wanted your guy's opinions on it.

1. The shifter has seemed to become louder lately and sounds very "plasticy" when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Maybe a little notchy as well. The "notchyness" isn't bad at all, just not quite as smooth as what it was. The noise is bugging me more than anything. Does anyone else have this same problem and is this a legitimate issue to ask the service techs to take a look at?

2. I have a rattle somewhere on the upper part of the driver side and passenger side door. I am pretty sure it is in the door, but it may be that pillar that is right next to your head. Anyway this rattle is right in my ear and bugs the crap out of me. I found that other thread posted up about people have window rattle/squeaking problems, but this doesn't quite sound like the same problem. I wanted to know if anyone was having this problem as well and also if this too is something I should have them look at.

Both of these are pretty picky I guess, but I just paid allot of money for this car and don't want to be annoyed by it. Overall I am very please so far with this car and auras service. I look forward everyday to driving the car and can't wait until the a-spec package is put on.

Thanks for you guy's help!

35 views and no replies? Maybe noone that has looked at this has a 6speed...

How about I make it easier.

If you have a 6speed can you hear plastic sounds when shifting, or is it quite?

Honestly, my little brothers 93 ford escort shifts quiter than this.

I'm just trying to find out if this is normal or not.

Thanks

I have an '05 6MT and do not have any plastic sounds when shifting into any gear. My is actually the opposite of what you describe. I do faintly hear the shifter going into the slot (when the radio is off), but it sounds like a solid "thunk" of metal gracefully sliding into place.

When I shift, it sounds purposeful and solid. You should bring it up with your dealer since you'll be there anyway. A crappy "plasticky" noise doesn't sound right to me.

As for your rattle issue.. I don't have that one so maybe someone else can comment on it.

Good luck and let us know what your dealer says about it.

BTW - What's up with your name? Maybe other people didn't want to respond to "* *"

hahaha.... I pick that name for all the car forums I belong to. It makes it much easier to log in. hahaha Now I don't have to worry about what name is what.

Thank you for your reply about the shifter. I do think something is up with mine becuase like I said earlier it only makes this noise from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4rth.

This should solve any type of 'clunking or plasticy' sounds when shifting
