Losing Gas Mileage
Losing Gas Mileage
I just to get about 23 mpg and now I have been about 20 mpg. Thats around 35 miles I'm losing per tank. I don't drive reckless, the oil has been changed, tires been rotated and are properly inflated, cleaned air filter. Its been like this for a couple months now. Any ideas???

My guess is the winter fuel grade, different tires? or perhaps a change in commute pattern might explain this variance in gas mileage. What is the Average MPH that the MID calculates? This average MPH is a huge predictor in your gas mileage- my guess is it's < 35mph.
I have an urban commute mostly and I need an average MPH of 30mph for 20MPG and about 45mph for 25MPG and that only happens when I do a road trip on the same tank.

ah i'm on the same boat ..... since the winter hit this year ive been freaking out about how my car drank all the gas really fast ....i'm hittin' 55k so i'm waitin' for my Denso plugs to come in and see if it's gonna change after that or not.
I just got back from driving across state and was only getting about 26-27mpg on the highway. I just made this drive a month ago and I was getting 31mpg. The only thing that has changed was that it got f'ing cold here.
Same issue. Same driving pattern on the highway I used to be able to get 30-31 mpg in the summer and 28-29 in the winter. Now I'm getting 27-28 in the summer and 25-26 in the winter.
I did get new tires this year and someone else suggested that may be the cause, but can going from one kind of all-season tire to another kind of all-season tire really cost 10% in mpg?

I noticed the same thing with mine and I am thinking I may have a dirty filter. I find it odd that a car is using more fuel on a cooler day as opposed to a warmer day. I have a k&n filter in mine and I will be cleaning it within a few days to see if there's and improvement.
I Usually get 12L per 100kms (canadian) for some reason Im getting 14L per 100kms with driving normal and NO LEAD FOOT at all...I dont know whats going on. I have a k&n sri and the filtre is about 6months old, should it need to be cleaned? spark plugs changed at 103,000kms?
Yes but I live in Canada and it is warmer here than it has been in the past 2 months of winter, yet I am getting worse gas mileage and still driving normally not even pedal to the metal EVER...so what's the deal? lol
Back in December of 2008, I noticed my mileage on trips to Houston and back went from about 31-33 mpg down to about 29-30 mpg. This was after I had bought new tires. It's now January 2010 and my mileage really hasn't changed. I'm still getting about 29-30 mpg on those trips. I still don't know what changed. I just assumed it was the new tires (although the prior set was the same speed rating from what I remember, they were definitely the same size, and the air pressure I set them at was the same, too.
My car is a 2004 I bought in 2003 and I have about 132,000 pretty trouble-free miles on it now, though, so I'm not going to complain too much.
