Locked out! Nothing is working. . . Help
Locked out! Nothing is working. . . Help
Had some motor work done little while back, and parked my 07 Acura TL Type S in front of my house. My car battery has died due to the fact that it isn't drivable. I have my key fob but it's useless if my battery is dead. The key it's self won't turn in the driver door anymore. I don't really want to pay a locksmith to get into it if I don't have to. I've tried to slim jim the driver and passenger doors with no luck. The back two have the child lock on so another useless access point. Please help I need to get my car moved!! I'm open to any ideas!
A jumpstarter is an essential safety item. There are many options since it's typically just a lithium based battery capable of delivering high current with clamp connectors. The TL does not need an enormous current to start and in your situation you really only need it connected to power the electronics and motors. I forget the brand of the one I have, however while it works fine for the TL, RDX and other vehicles, I don't specifically recommend it.
That leaves the matter of lifting the hood to access the battery and I've never tried to do so while it's shut. Obviously you can't just use the key fob, which leaves you needing to either pull the release cable from outside the car or make suitable contact with the positive battery connector with your jumpstarter as the negative can be connected to a suitable metal part of the engine or chassis. Neither of these is likely to be practical.
In much the same category as the jumpstarter is the portable tire inflator. In this case I do recommend the Fanttik X8 APEX, though there are many other options. In a separate category is the battery conditioner. I like to connect my battery to the conditioner from time to time to make sure it's fully charged.
The key it's self won't turn in the driver door anymore.
In case you aren't a AAA member, a family member, friend or passing stranger can obtain service for your car, but will need to be present for the service.
Pretty sure the only exposed keyhole on the TL is the Driver's door. If that physical mechanism isn't working, then:
- You can fight the hood latch (wouldn't recommend)
- You can pay a locksmith to open the door (find a friend who has AAA)
That is about all I know. I have watched AAA get into my car before when my keys got locked in it. They pull back the top back corner of the door frame with a small airbag just enough to get their wire inside to unlock the door. But...for me that was to hit the lock button which won't help you since your battery is dead. No matter, your best bet is a professional.

Just a reminder that you will most likely spend more to repair the broken window than to sign up for AAA for a year. I have never paid for lockout service directly so no idea what that cost is...we have kept our AAA active for years since we have usually needed lockout or a tow once a year....or friends or family....AAA just requires you be present, they don't care whose car it actually is.
