Ladder on the highway!!!

So believe it or not there was a 12 foot ladder sitting on the highway and of course as I was passing I ran over the ladder. I saw a piece of plastic come flying off and then when I got home I had to rip off another major one. I checked the underbody for any major damage but didn't see anything. Although there was a small black pipe closer to the drive side wheel that had a kink in it. Does anyone know what this small pipe is for? It runs alone the front subframe. I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Probably going to be tough to diagnose without a picture...If you can get a shot of the area you are talking about, go ahead and post it. You can find directions on posting pics here:

Suck! Had something similar happen, but it was the person in front of me that ran over it which caused it to pop up like 4 feet in the air pointing right at my windshield. Luckily I was an awesome driver and swerved like a mad man to avoid.

Best of luck OP! Pop up some pics when you can.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. I hit a ladder about 6 months ago in my old M3. Truck in front of me drove straight over it sending it spinning and I have nowhere to go but over it. It ripped my front splitter to pieces and blew out my rear tire...all in the pouring rain.

Glad to hear it did not lead to an accident and hope everything turns out ok.

"Air guide/air strakes" (plastic under front of car) probably broke.

I don't see how you could have came out of this without bending rims as well. Sorry to hear about the mishap but at least no one got hurt. Good luck.

Wow---that is scary.
I was on the interstate some time ago and passed a cross-type lug wrench laying in the road. I no sooner thought, "That's pretty dangerous" when somebody ran over it, kicking it up into the air, spinning the whole time. I watched it walk right up and over a minivan, piercing the windshield as it went. It then careened off the minivan and flew over 3 lanes of traffic before landing in the grass on the side of the road. Yowza.
Good luck, OP!

Damn, that is scary. On the ladder and dwb's lug wrench Hopefully I never encounter this, but I've had plenty of swerving practice to miss road kill

How large was the plastic piece you ripped off/lost? Hopefully it wasn't the air dam that is used to direct air to the radiator....if so, you're going to want to replace that soon.

Back in 87 I was running along the highway behind a van and it quickly mad a lane change and then I seen why A big cardboard box in the way. I ended up hitting it . Hoping at the time it was empty but it had a steel filing cabinet inside.

I ended up buying my first 5.0 Mustang a week later.

Gonna hazard a guess and say the "black pipe" is your front sway bar.

Black pipe ended up being a vacuum tube. I found it on some website but now I can't. The air dam was bent a little for the radiator but I haven't noticed any temperature spikes or over-running of the fan so guess it's alright? I'm going to replace it just for peace of mind but I haven't noticed any performance issues *knocks on wood*
