AMEN brother! Adam is probably the best person there. I mean he must get so much shit from people, he does his job well I think. I'd rather him than the person to his right. Haha I ate so many of their bagels they had their last time. My car the last time they scratched mine up too! I remembered so I told Adam at the last minute. "Oh and Adam, dont wash the car". So if you go down there and see a Black TL with some chrome TL license plates, thats mine. Though it looks like utter crap right now because I brought it there without washing it because I knew it'd be there for a while. Overall it's an ALRIGHT place. Not near the best though..

So Adam is now trying to get me a new engine. He said it would be less expensive than to repair the entire engine. So thats what he told me. We'll see. He still needs to get the "okay".

I got my car back last thrusday. They put in a new short block. I had a bad wrist pin.. You probably have the same problem since the noise is 100% alike.

Yeah Hopefully I know what's going on soon. I really hope I get a new engine. At least the service man is considering it. I have it under warranty so I will not need to pay much at all. Thank goodness I got it.

Well here's probably and hopefully the end of this LONG and stressful experience. Adam at Acrua in Wappingers Falls said he is replacing the engine with a used engine that has 60,000 miles on it, for free since it's under warranty. My engine had 83K on it at the time of it being swapped out.

So this is the best news I've heard out of the entire experience. I will remain using synthetic oil and maintain this car to the best of my care.

So I got my new 62K Engine and I got the car back. It honestly feels like the old engine lacked some HP, because this new one is a lot more responsive. I am happy this, looks like the entire event is over. FINALLY. And then I get my ATLP Exhaust next week.

Glad you got it fixed! That noise was probably setting off the knock sensor causing the lost power and mpg.

I actually have a similar ticking noise that is much quieter than yours but still noticeable at cold and hot temperatures ... it also seems to be coming from a similar location towards the rear of the engine bay ... what would you guys suggest I do, and should I avoid driving my car? I have an 06 TL, 5AT with ~37,000 miles or so ...

I think I've heard this a while back as well perhaps couple months ago, but I never really noticed it again until recently when I put in some additional coolant and turned on the engine to see how the engine was running ...

Valve adjustment as discussed above?

To what extent should we be hearing the tapping of the valves exactly?
I will try to post a video of my car as well. Thank you in advance everyone.

Glad to hear OP got his case settled!

What I honestly recommend is: Go to your nearest Acura servicemen. Ask him to take a look at your engine. It will cost you something but it's worth it. I honestly dont think there is anything wrong with your engine because you only have 37K.. I had 78K when it started. My knock was LOUD and obnoxious. If it's unbearable like mine then you got a prob. haha. But lets hear what others have to say. Because mine was still under Warranty TG.

i had the same problem. One day it just got louder and the engine light came on and the car felt like it was lagging. I bought a OBDII sensor and it said cly 5 misfire. I took off the coil and the spark plug was loose. I changed all spark plugs and the tapping was gone, and car felt much smoother. Before you do that seafoam the car then change the spark plugs. Its a pain to get the ones in the back, you have to take off the strut bar first.

I'M Hearing a similar ticking noise but is not that loud
Mainly when its in idle and it goes away on high rpms. I hope that its nothing to bad or to hard to fix.
What do you guys recommend?
I have an 05 with 56k miles.

Was your car losing oil? I have a Nissan Murano and it makes a similar noise sometimes. It uses about 1/2 qt of oil every couple weeks but it isn't leaking, it's not in the coolant, and it's not smoking. Very strange. Rislone seems to have quited it down. When it 1st did it, I added seafoam and it stopped instantly. I''m guessing it's a stuck lifter. Seem intermittant. It's my wifes car and she never hears it because the radio is always blasting. I guess I'll have to bend over and take it to the dealer for some exploritory work.

No its not losing oil, I believe its the valves that need adjusting, from what I was told.

Yeah when they adjusted my valves, turned out that it wasnt the problem. I just can't believe what my old engine looked like inside...It was like brown dark brown... Now it's golden.

I may repost the video of the engine knock if anyone wishes to hear it for an example. It may help out if anyone needs it.

Yeah when they couldn't find the issue to my problem with the loud knocking they gave me the car and said "Here just drive it". So I did for a whole month. Then they just decided to replace the entire engine altogether. Haha I predicted they would do that, so I had some fun with that engine those last few days. :P
But try not to worry too much. HOPEFULLY it's different than my issue. My car when I bought it was fine, no knock. Then after some good runs over time, it gradually got louder over a month or two. I purchased the car again, with 72K and by 78K it was loud as hell. In many ways if I were you, i'd ask to test drive an 04-06 TL Auto and get on it and notice if there is a difference in power compared to yours. Because with mine, when I got on it the first time I was surprised by the amount of power it had over the last engine. If you notice a lack of power compared to the other. You then MAY have the same issue indeed.

Yeah pleases post the video, so that I can compare.
By the way the knocking I'm my engine is more like a ticking than anything, and it hasn't gotten louder just a low pitch tick tick tick. Oh yeah definitely no loss of power, car still feels strong.

Those engines sometimes like an ester based oil. I put Redline 5w-30 in the GF's Murano and it quieted it down a lot.

the knocking is distinct u know its knocking when u hear it......im pretty sure my block is warped because at this point its creating an oil pressure prob n once the cars been run for about an hour the noise goes away and it runs smoothly. idle is funny too. so much nonsense.
