Knocking sound when driving from stop
Knocking sound when driving from stop
So I seem to have a knocking sound, not sure if its from the engine, that I get when I drive from a stop. It only happens once or twice a week. Oh and the sound is just a "knock knock" and that's it. I've only started to hear it about a couple months ago.
Anyone know what could be the cause? Is it something to worry about? Bad gas?
I have switched to chevron gas for now.

I have a weird knocking or clunking sound as well when I make a quick maneuver, turn fast, or pull into a parking lot with a small but sharp incline. I cant figure it out at all, but it doesnt sound like its suspension and engine related because its very inconsistent. It sounds like something is rolling around behind my navi system lol.
a clicking or knocking that's speed dependent during turning is likely to be CV joint related. Check the CV boots on both sides for tears or grease. They may be due for replacement (my OEM 6MT axles were bad at 60k, so they're not necessarily durable).
ok, so i've figured this only happens when turning from a stop (ex: pulling out of a parking lot). is this related to the cv joints or axle? can anyone please show me exactly what to check, i don't have tools or a lift.
also, if i don't do anything, what's the worst that can happen? it's gotten worse over time.

you will need a lift or jack to properly inspect the CV boots. they're the rubber accordion looking things on the inner side of your brakes with a thick shaft going into the engine/transmission. Separate the folds with your fingers to see if there are any cracks or signs of grease.
the worst that can happen is they break and you suddenly lose the ability to move or accelerate. Some think it's their transmission but its actually just a broken axle.
to reduce the wear on the axle (if it is the axle), dont gun it when your wheel is turned, or park with the wheel turned.

Knocking could mean the axles are going bad. They may be wearing from degrading grease even if there are no cracks or obvious leaks.
Dealer will quote you >$700 for a new axle, per side. You can find the OEM parts online for around $500:

Or you can go with axles that have new joints only:

I will likely go with Raxles ... my joints are failing as well.

The manual v6 accords and the 3rd gen TLs have been coming into Honda frequently for that issue, it the outer CV joint thats going bad and thats all that needs to be replaced. If they charge you if they for an entire axle replacement, refuse it, its a ripoff. The other option is to purchase an aftermarket axle at autozone for hundreds less. This outer joint failure will also occur with the boot intact but will fail faster if the boot is broken.
Does it only happen on first start of the day ? If so it is normal ... It happens only in the morning or if your car has been standing for like 6 - 8 hrs and is a single cluck ... It is normal. If its more than one cluck and hapenin more that twice a day, could be what these guys said above.
