Knocking and loud underneath in wet conditions...Ideas?Help?
The other day I was driving while it was very wet out and all the sudden it sounded like my exhaust split or a weld broke somewhere because all of the sudden the car got extremely loud and I could feel vibrations on my ass and on the pedals. Then every bump I went over I could feel and hear something underneath the car knocking around. The car went back to normal, but repeated this another two times. Since I have somewhat of a custom exhaust I figured it was that, so I took it to my buddy's shop and we threw it up on the lift, but there was nothing even remotely wrong with the exhaust. We even started banging on it as hard as we could and it wouldnt budge, nor would it even come close to hitting anything underneath the car. At this point I thought I was crazy and so did the tech looking at the car with me, but then I was driving another day while it was pooring rain out and it started happening again, and this time I had witnesses. So only in the extreme wet does it happen. Any ideas?

check your wiper motor and the stuff near the fire-wall. Also check your motor-mounts. How long does this vibration last for? Any specific speed? Braking? Accelerating? what other mods do you have?

How about moisture through your CAI? When I hear HEAVY WATER + CAI = KNOCKING I think uh oh..
but you say everything is good now.. hmm.. well I'd remove your intake pipe from you throttle body and see if there's moisture there, maybe it was symptomatic with the engine about to hydrolock.
This doesn't sound good no matter what it may turn out to be.

my previous car (not an acura) used to do the same thing in heavy rain, with the factory exhaust, i never found out what it was, and when my mechanic checked it out..same thing..he couldnt find anything. i sorta just went with it, and nothing ever came of it. i still see my old car driving around today and the owner told me he hasnt had a problem with it...who knows..that problem will bother me forever.

As far as it being the intake, I dont think so cause you can feel the the knocking from underneath the car and it only happens when I go over bumps
