i've had a cel for my knock sensor for a while but it is on and off.

stayed on this time yesterday and got it checked it is indeed has to do with the knock sensor according to the scanner

how necessesary is it for me to change this out or take off all sorts of shit just to find out nothing may be wrong or a wiring problem?

car runs normal seemingly and finding time and money out of schedule is a bit hard atm

 

also anything else i could do and change while going thru with getting the knock done or doing it myself?

 

Look around, there were treads about mice or rats eating the knock sensor wires because of the soy based wire coatings. With the knock sensor not working the car will get bad gas mileage as well as be down on power since it has to run on ignition maps for 87 octane to protect the engine. I think you have to remove the intake manifold, so you could install a heat blocking gasket from p2p. ( about $35 on ebay )

 

yep, i did read about the soy based product issue is there anything around this? if indeed my wires is the problem and not the actual sensor, than it may possibly be chewed again? my school has an army of underground squirrels across the entire campus, parking lot, across the street etc =x
