keeping a 2004 TL in 2nd gear
keeping a 2004 TL in 2nd gear
hello, I have a 2004 TL Auto that we race Dirt tract. We run it in sport shift mode in 2nd. Recently, in the corners, it jumps out of 2nd and into 3rd. Does anybody know why this might happen and is there any way to force the trans. to stay in 2nd? Thanks?
Its probably doing that because its overheating and perhaps trying to help you help it.
Its also a 2004 auto, which means its made out of glass. its bad enough they break in D, but dirt tracking it in sport shift?

I recently tried L in my 07 Type-S. I went WOT from ~5 MPH and the car wouldn't shift out of second gear, as I banged off of the rev limiter. I found this post from another member:
From the 2008 Owner's Manual...
Low (L) - When you move the shift lever to this position, the transmission shifts to the lowest gear that can be selected without exceeding the engine redline. At normal speeds, it selects third gear. As the vehicle slows, it selects second gear at about 56 mph (90 km/h), and first gear at about 29 mph (47 km/h). Accelerating in first gear, the transmission upshifts to second gear at about 37 mph (59 km/h). You must move the shift lever to D for the transmission to upshift to third gear. On Type S, at closed throttle, it selects second gear at about 61 mph (98 km/h), and first gear at about 37 mph (59 km/h).

There are 3 or more TL'S on this track. One of them usually wins. All that I have talked to run in Sport 2nd. One runs in LOW. From the specs. I have read, In sport mode, the trans. should not shift into a higher gear ( above second) without going back to (D).
You can find some of them at Three Wide Productions on Youtube. Look up Hotshots. Thunder valley speedway. The video sucks! We are trying to find a good spot to mount an in-car camera without getting the lens covered in dirt.
