Oh ok. So no need to take them out for powder coating then? I got new covers and will have them coated locally, but the covers came with the seals already installed among a few other things already there too. I also got a gasket kit for each cover, wondering if I need it, or if these gaskets are the same ones. Hard to tell through the bag, but at least some look new, i.e. not included with each cover.
^originally, i thought you had to bake the valve covers in the oven to produce the wrinkles.
I had bought the gasket kit, which came with tons of gaskets. including these.
i then started pulling on them which ripped them. at that point, I was all in and had to replace them

If you have gone on the mission to remove your valve covers, fk that sh*t, swap ALL the gaskets over...the bolt ones fkng SUCK to swap over to the original bolts, but I'd suggest doing that too...lube them all with fresh oil too.
Easiest way to do the bolt that I found was hold with a paper towel to avoid rubbing your fingers raw, lube with oil, then press with palm of hand like a syringe to pull the new gasket washer on.
You'll know...mine were brittle and shrunken, only a matter of time before you have oil weeping out of the cover if you don't swap them all.

Awesome, will do.
And yes that's right justn, I forgot that normally they will go in the oven at like 400F or something so ok, I'll remove everything.
I ended up buying new covers and they came with some of the bolts and seals installed, but I also got the gasket kits since I didn't know they came that way. I hesitated buying new covers at first but one has the pcv nipple corroded and after talking to the powder coat guy, he said if there are baffles in there, which there are, he said no sand blasting, cuz some will trap in the baffle and may end up in the heads. So I just said f* it I'm already in the hole for one cover might as well get the other one, get them coated and installed. That way if there are any surprises when the original rear one comes off the car I won't be going back and forth crazy. And I didn't see myself trying to clean 7 year old dirty covers by hand...
I'll use your tip with the flathead to remove the seals.

Yeah, definitely man...good thinking!
LOL...I literally had to do buy and pick up at store 2 days in a row to buy new fel-pro gasket kits from my local advance auto...the guy was like, wtf happened, man.
Just said I was dumb...
I wasted about 5 hours on getting the spark plug gasket onto the tube the right way...that part sucked. I wish I had paid attention to how they came off to begin with.

Haha right I've been going to pick up parts at Delray Acura all week like 3 times already. The last time the guy was like "didn't you just get your parts before yesterday?" They must think I'm crazy, which is probably true
I just keep saying to myself "a boat would be worse, a boat would be worse" and keep on trecking. I'm going back to pick up the rear cover as soon as it comes in lol
But yeah what started as a simple PnP job on the TB and manifolds has turned into a little engine porn job. If only things weren't so fugly underneath that plastic cover, but I guess that's the benefit of using an engine cover

Yep...at this point, I know all the guys from Acura of Pembroke Pines...sales, parts, service, even the techs...first name basis.
They're awesome...my home away from home.

how come the 2nd one always comes out better?
lol, at least I tackled the spray painting learning curve!

Shows the side mount and cover on. I ended up just forcing that motherfucker in there with the help of bada$$vtec

getting ready to adjust valves

and uh oh! I snapped the bolt head off of the front engine mount.

Justin, try centering a very small bit and drill out the center of the bolt, using increasing sizes...as it nears the edges of the threading (before it hits threading and ruins it) it'll likely release the pressure that's holding the bolt in place and will just come right out.
Good luck, man. Small victories.
