Justnspace vs J32/J37
so, now....
I just have to adjust valves.
paint covers.
and put everything back together.
I had gotten a little discouraged last weekend.
and its just best to take a break and start fresh.

Valve Adjustment isn't bad...
Do it twice to get be sure, then use your torque wrench to set all the locking nuts back to 14 ft/lb
I took NFN's advice and went high tolerance on exhaust side and low tolerance on intake side since they tend to end up too tight/loose (ex/in).
I want to say .008 intake and .013 exhaust, but don't quote me, that's on memory.

timing belt showing TDC. its hard to get it exact, I did the best I could.
next step is to adjust valves.
and in case some one didnt have the service manual the valve specs can be found on the inside of the hood

LOL...hey, better to be scared and check everything twice BEFORE you go boom again!
You're fine...go over Maj's 105K diy one last time before you bolt covers on.

I think he's on a time crunch...they'll have to do.
I agree though, and more important than the length, make sure the girth...oh wait, never mind.
Actually, I found that even with my long ones...was MUCH easier for me once I put a slight bend on the end, about 3/4" up from the tip.

I indeed installed the belt wrong.
Thank you rockstar and nfnsquared for picking up at the small details.
I installed the belt clock-wise and not counter-clockwise like the service manual stated.
I had already pulled the pin.
i uninstalled the belt which left me with a slight problem. the tensioner spring was already activated!
I tried to use my table top vice, but it wasnt large enough to fit the tensioner.
so, I went to my favorite exhaust shop. took it to my guy and he re-installed the pin in a matter of seconds. for free.99
in hind sight, I think I could have used a C-clamp.
re-installed the belt the correct way. this time, timing on all three pulley's lined up PERFECTLY.
however, now i'm stuck on installing the side mount and lower timing belt cover.
I cant seem to logically install it. it wants me to force it in, when I know that it shouldnt be forced in.
in the mean time; I decided to paint.

I also found a very easy way to uninstall the spark plug seals underneath the valve covers.

insert a flat head underneath the seal and twist.

^a long fucking time.
i'm so frustrated.
Its hard to work on it during the week( work and family) and then on when I do get a chance to work on it on the weekends, i run into problems after problems after problems.
I just want to get it right, so I'd rather take my time and solve problems one at a time.
my one friend who has done this before is busy with a new family. so, i'm just trying to take it one day at a time.

I don't recall any issue once I did it in the correct order...

however, there is a pulley in the way.
the mount is no problem to install.
I just cant figure out a way to finesse the lower cover underneath the side mount and wedge into place behind the pulley.
this is the pulley that you can move from side to side.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not yet but after the belt has been installed and the tensioner released its a good idea to turn the engine over at least TWO full rotations before moving onto the next step. After spinning the motor over, recheck the belt tension to ensure that its within acceptable range. Doing this will tell you 100% if the belt was installed correctly or not and alleviated any fears of that initial fire. Lol, cause when you're not sure, it's somewhat like a Russian roulette.
Good progress so far!

Yeah, and after each full rotation double check that all TDC's line up.
Justin, did you get my text with a picture of how everything came off and went back on?
Also, can you take a picture of the pulley you're talking about please. Did you accidentally put the idler/tensioner pulley assembly back on FIRST?
You must first do side mount, then bottom cover (made same mistake as NFN...bottom cover covers one of the bolts that holds side mount). Tensioner assembly doesn't go on until much closer to the end.

Tell me about it, man...
I knew that when you said you were having to force something, something wasn't right. Although stuff was cumbersome and tight spaces, nothing needed to be forced into place.
Glad you got it figured out, man. What's your deadline again? This Saturday coming?

Way to go, crabs! Keep up the good work. You can't even be mad at the problems though because you're spending the extra time to make sure everything is perfect. Be proud of that ish.

Those are the rubber o ring seals for the spark plug tube to ensure you don't end up with oil in there...good practice to swap them out with your valve cover gasket since they come in the set anyway, Ivo.
