I can't stress how important it is to top off between oil changes etc.

That is all.

check spark plugs as well.
Cylinder #5 likes to eject.

make sure tires have full tread

buckle your seat belts when moving.

safety first!

lets just go ahead and make a check list.

I know that when I'd go jogging and it was hot out...I'd feel sluggish. The very next time I went out I brought my camelbak and had a chance to top of my fluids and it really did feel like an internal vtec of some sort did kick in. I think that had a lot to do with me being able to finish that jog without passing out.

I'm between oil changes and just topped off my fluids too (post Super Bowl and all). Gets expensive with my fridge but I need to keep a ready supply of antifreeze for these cold winter months.

Just topped off my fuilds and.........-beer-fridge.jpg

Seriously though, if you're regularly topping off anything except washer fluid, make sure to check for leaks.

It was for my car. Every now and then I notice its a little sluggish between oil changes, and I added a tad more oil and boom! V TEC Kicked in YO! My TL has a tendency to suck oil down. Not sure if it's because it's the 3.5L or not..... but yeah oil is an issue in my car.

^figure out why its an issue.

because it shouldnt be an issue.

also not sure if you're joking; but vtec does operate off of oil.
if running low oil the cams wont have any lubricant!!!!!!!!

this is why i said this thread is lacking...
your details are missing.
THE TL DOESNT EAT OIL!!!
you have something wrong with the car.

:shudders at thethought of running low oil:

Really? You think so? I always thought that cars actually, 'used' some of the oil you put in them? Car is running fine..... or at least seems to be. :| Only has 39k on it. I do have a heavy foot though. It wasn't much either, just a very small amount. I mean literally. I still have plenty of warranty on it. maybe I will mention this to them when I go in for the recall. I am a tad hesitant though because last time Acura poked around in my car the transmission basically had to be rebuilt.......

I do always have to top of oil though. Usually not by much, but I do have to between my oil changes.

Like Justin said, our TLs don't eat oil (and yes you're right that many older cars do). I've had my TL since new and <knock-on-wood> it hasn't burned a drop of oil, but I also don't redline it very often either...

I don't red line but there are times I rev up to 5000-5500 rpm before shifting. Huh weird and here I thought I was doing the right things by making an effort to top off...... Dammit. Lol. And yes Justin the V Tec post was just for laughs

I am in high altitude too not sure if that makes a difference or not.

thanks for your complete thoughts!
6mt or auto??

I live in 5k-7k RPM.
and my car does not burn oil.

Nissans do burn oil; theVQ motors have an inherit flaw

you are correct at periodically checking your oil!! as you've found something amiss with it.
Now to do some investigating to figure out why its burning oil.

I haven't noticed any funny odors and I know with 100% certainty I have no leaks. Dammit this was just supposed to be a friendly / funny reminder to my fellow Honda enthusiasts :/ Oh and it's a 6MT.

could it be that your'e checking the levels at different times? Like, after driving vs at night, parked on slope etc...that would make a difference on your dipstick, so to speak.

Usually it's while gassing up. I let is sit for about 10 - 15 minutes prior to checking. Am I still going about this too old school so to speak???

You sit in your car for 10 to 15 minutes at the gas station!?!?
Yeah, probably, man...I doubt you're burning, probably just looking a little too closely and too often.

Ahahahahahaha! Nah man, I usually gas all the way up from close to E then go in to grab a drink and some snacks while the old girl cools off and 'winds down'.

gotcha...but at that point, you may be at the mercy of the oil cooling off, making it's way back down into the pan to be measured. I bet you don't need to check it that often.

More importantly, check it in exactly the same spot each time like in your garage. The ground may seem level but it can affect the level on the dipstick a lot before you're able to notice it's not level.

No oil should be consumed. Even on a track day, rarely going below 4,500rpm mine has never consumed a measurable amount.

You only need to wait a minute at the most to check the level. Usually by the time you pop the hood it's been long enough for most of the oil to drain back.

I would have to find it again. It was as close as I could get to what mine looked like (GNX flares, exact same Simmons rims, same stance, same width (street) tires, etc) before half the car got stolen by the bodyshop. Bad memories.

I'd keep an eye on it, Honda's are really not known to burn oil. My 98' accord V6 which I bought new back then now has 278,000 miles and burns not even a drop of oil. If you have to add a little oil periodically its okay, but if you're adding a quart every 1,000 miles you have a problem.

Lol. Maybe one day. I'll say one thing though, the '90s were a special time. The old muscle car guys didn't know what to think about a pair of turbo 6s not just beating but annihilating every street rod, muscle car, exotic, etc. I was a 17yr old kid and my father was always there in his faster car. The crowd hated our cars but didn't understand them either. There were so many dumbfounded looks when we would drive through Sonic on a Friday night and after races with a smooth quiet idle and a tiny engine. Turbos were considered a gimmick by most back then. We took on everything including the new muscle like the Viper GTS when they came out. Some people would be laughing when we would put 15 cars on a new at the time Viper. Some would just shake their heads. I tried to look up where I called out all the local Vipers on one of the Viper boards and even the supercharged ones wouldn't race. Good times. But now everyone knows about turbos it's not as big of a deal as it once was for a turbo 6 to beat up on everything that crossed its path and with less than half of the money put into it. The memories I have from that time span are special and could never be recreated.

That's why I'm in no hurry to get it finished again. I raced an 800rwhp Supra and a new ZR1 Vette as my last races and that's where I'm leaving it for a long time. Everyone knows turbos and everyone expects a GN to run 10s so while racing is fun, it will never be the same. My only regret is the couple cheesy videos when the cars were nearly stock from '01 and earlier and very few pictures. I still have people to this day that don't know my name but they recognize me by the car I drove.

^^^Awesome...I'm serious, make a thread and piece it together little by little. It's pretty riveting stuff, in my opinion. I do wish I'd have taken more pictures of my earlier years too...

Thanks for the thoughtful post, Matt.

I was just reading some of my kill stories from '01 and up. I can't believe how boring life has gotten. I forgot about all of the late night after the clubs closed kills, the job with Versace and the Europe trips, and even the fights. I'm glad some of it was captured on the internet. Sometimes I think the younger crowd is bad in here but looking at my old posts, I was a terror lol.

Back on topic...

LMAO...dude, that happens to me now, I'm like what a fkn newb...SEARCH. Then I'll find a thread started by ME asking how to close the gas cap properly from a short 4 years ago.

Anyway, this thread is a free for all since there wasn't a burning oil issue, I bet...and the other half of the first post was a joke.
