How to take out this? (Defog air vent on dash)

Anyone knows how to take off this part? (#9, circled in red)
I have a real bad rattling with this part. It rattles against dash. I thought the rattle was from the center speaker. But after much test, I found out that it was not the speaker but this vent (or grill) rattle against dashboard. If I hit dash near center speaker or center speaker grill itself, i can hear a rattle or buzz. I put some thick foam under dash right below this #9 part, to give upward pressure which silenced a lot of rattling. But it did not remove the rattle completely, so I would like to use some felt tape between #9 part and dashboard. I just need to know how to take out #9. Can I just pry it out?

I've never taken this specific part out (i've taken A LOT of things off the TL dash) but it would appear that there are 4 clips in your schematic... seems to me that after you perhaps removed #29 you may be able to take a broad flat-head screwdriver and gently pop this piece out, I doubt you'd have to disassemble the entire dash to get to it.

Give it a try if you haven't already. You can also consider using a butter knife, a trim tool, etc

Well, I don't have to take out that part because I sold my new TL yesterday.

OK, I got sick of all these rattles with my brand new 2008 TL. I like almost everything with 3gen TL except these rattles. Whenever I fix a rattle, then a new rattle comes up soon. I owned this car for about 4 months and have about 4000 miles on it. Probably half of that mileage was racked up during the rattle testing/fix. I mean seriously, I spent a lot of my time trying to fix these rattles.
Dealer didn't help me much. They just think I am anal.
I've owned many different cars in the past but never had this kind of nightmare.

Well, yesterday, an Honda dealer offered me 28K for trade in on my TL Base which I paid 27K when I bought it new. I just could not resist to trade in my 2008 TL for a new 2009 Odyssey when they were basically made me make money by paying me more than what I paid on TL.

Selling TL at 28K when I bought it for 27K and drove for 3month???? That was an unbelievable deal.

But considering tax, I still lost about $1000 bucks. But still it was a great deal I personally think.

I and my family are enjoying the new Odyssey. It's more roomy, easier for my kid to get in & out and easier for my wife. It has DVD/Navigator/Run flat tire etc... AND IT HAS NO RATTLE SO FAR!!! :-)

TL was just for me, but this new car will benefit my whole family.
Finally I am happy now. Well, my short lived love affair with TL is over now.

lol I feel you with the rattles man I have a ton. I fix one and a new one pops up. I think I might have the same one as you actually because I felt taped the center speaker and it fixed one rattle but now I hear another one coming from the center and I thinks its coming from where you said. Oh well I don't think I could sell my car over a rattle I love everything else about the car too much. But it sounds like you got a good deal so you should be happy.

For that rattle, you could try the vent under windshield. Or another possible source is a wire under center speaker. This wire is connected to Hazzard light button. Mine was hitting against back side of the small display pannel on top of center air vent.

Yeah, if they did not make offer this incredible price on trade-in and making only $200 on new car sales, I wouldn't dare to sell my TL just for rattle. But it was an opportunity I couldn't just let go. I wonder if the dealer is making any profit on this sale. Unless they can sell my TL for 30K, I don't think they are going to make any profit.

No not really, I've been thinking to trade in my wife's accord for a odyssey for a while. We did test drove last weekend. Somehow yesterday I realized that I could trade-in my TL if the price is right. Dealer offered 25K, then I called 29K. Finally they offered 28K then I took it. I did not smile until I came home with a new odyssey. I am planning a family trip to San Diego sea word this weekend. :-)

Wow ... Tl --> Odessey -- yer gunna have a TON of rattles on your Odessey after a few thousand miles, LOL! I know from experience -- Hondas are rattle cages like Acuras. Glad you put the family first, I think that was your driving issue.

Yeah, I expect that. But that's OK, you can't expect a dead quiet car when it comes to a van. Besides, Odyssey makes more road noise, so it will kill some minor cabin noises anyway.
So far, my odyssey has no rattle I can hear yet. Even on the very rough road where I tested my TL duplicate rattles.
My accord rattles a lot too but it does not annoys me as much as like TL did. BTW, my kid loves Odyssey.

with the PAX tires you have to buy the specialty tires which have some stupid high prices. Also if the dealer can't put the tires on the rims (requires special equipment), they just order a new tire/rim combo and you have to eat the cost.

Wow that sucks. I just thought it is better for the safety of my family since my wife will be the primary driver and she will always have to carry our son. I originally did not want it but they did not have the color I like with no PAX. So I thought I will just pay $600 more for color we like and PAX. But I still think I made good decision.

Thanks for letting me that though.
