Question How difficult is it to change dashboard lights?

A couple of my interior lights seem to have burned out: passenger's seat heater switch, the "Select/reset" button to the right side of the instrument pod, the rocker switch that controls the brightness of the instrument pod, the button you press to hang up the HFL, and the button you press to cancel a voice command on the Navi. None of these is a big deal; on the other hand, having lights not working is annoying (the car is a 2004 TL with just under 49,000 miles....will hit 49,000 by next weekend). How expensive is it to replace these various lights?

I'd like to know as well. All my cruise control button lights are out as well as the OFF and DUAL on the instrument panel. Same with the seat heater switch.

This is my 3rd Acura and every single one has always had the same problem... lights going out.

if your car still under 50,000 miles, you can bring it to the dealer and they can fix for you. b/c it still under warranty.

But is that necessarily true? Bulbs seem like they might be a "wear item." But anyway, the warranty is 4 years OR 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 4 years for me is next Monday. I don't have time to get it in before then.

Are you 100% positive it's 4 years OR 50k miles? I just picked up this TL not too long ago (2004) and it looks like it was registered on 9/28/04 according to CarFax. I guess that would mean I'm still covered if that's the case.

Edit: Nevermind, I have 73k miles. Well back to the drawing board.

My dealership charges ~$10 for the bulb and ~$60 to install!

They won't cover it... my car has 54K miles on it but I have the extended 100K mile warranty. Bastards!

I guess some things are "excluded"... probably varies from dealership to dealership. Gonna call around to see if I can get it done elsewhere.

Warranties usually exclude "wear items," i.e., items that wear out when used in normal service, which is why I wondered what they would charge (assuming for the sake of discussion that bulbs aren't covered). Tires and brake pads, for example, are not warranty items. 49,000 miles seems fast for dashboard lights to go out, though.

There's no instructions on replacing them yourselves anywhere is there? I couldn't seem to find anything really in the service manual but I just sort of skimmed through it.

I have 54K miles on my TL and 2 bulbs have gone out already. There was a post on here listing which bulbs were required. I'm pretty sure they were "normal" bulbs available at a hardware store or something. For the heated seats bulb, I think it would be rather easy to replace, especially if you have taken apart your center console to install an iPod kit or a CT SS.

Yeah, that one I'm not too concerned about. These are all the lights that went out on me:

- Navigation "OFF" and "DUAL" buttons
- All cruise control buttons on steering wheel
- All window controls except driver window
- Driver seat heat

The navigation and steering wheel buttons seem like the most PITA. I don't even know where I'd start with those.

^ An idea. Maybe you can go thru the instructions on how to change your steering wheel.

Seems like a winner to me:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...6&postcount=20

Step 11/19 seems to be where you'd swap out bulbs...

This thread MIGHT get you closer to the window bulbs... not sure though because the pictures aren't showing up at work:

Ya, there is no instructions on how to change the bulbs, they are pretty easy. The ones in the steering wheel you may have to remove steering wheel to remove. Yes bulbs are covered by the factory warranty. They are not covered by acura care, certified warranty extension or after market warranties. If you tell them the switches are malfunctioning they might be covered by your extended warranty.

oh ya, look up directions on how to remove switch. Then usually you can just use a small flat blade screwdriver and the bulb is right on the side of the switch you just twist it like a 1/4 turn then it gets gently tapped out then put new one in and enjoy

Does anyone have a part number for the various instrument/navigation panel bulbs?

All but one of the left side navigation buttons are out now in addition to what is already out.

you say all window lights are out except for your driver's window light. THAT may be because you have the passenger window lock button pressed down which turns off the passenger window lights.
