Hood Rust
Hello folks,
Anyone notice if the paint is chipped on the front of the hood at the edges where the brushed metal (maybe plastic) molding makes contact with the hood?
At first I thought that it was a chip from a rock, but there is a chip on the other side of the molding in the same place. It seems as of the hood flexes at speed and rubs against the molding.
One side was actually rusted so my friend and I gave it a thorough rust treatment (acid, etching and primer) this weekend.
Anyone else notice???

yeah, mine did the same thing. I had to put more of that felt tape on the back of the molding and fix the small area of rust. when my car was put together they didn;t put the felt tape all the way to then end of the grill piece.

I just installed a new hood molding piece on this weekend, but I didn't, but the new piece didn't come with any felt tape behind it. I installed it without the felt tape. From what you guys are saying, it sounds like I'm going to get into some problems. I'm thinking of removing the molding again and reinstalling it with the tape, but I have one question. How do I remove the plastic clip part behind the mold without breaking it? I can unscrew the 4 screws without a problem, but I had to break the plastic on the original to remove it. Any suggestions? Thanks
