Battery died again! What the hell?!

So around a month or so ago, my battery died for the 2nd time. Ticked me off because I was stranded at work. Got it to the dealer, & tried to tell me, "Maybe the intake is shorting it", since the intake does rub against it. But, the tech. says it's the handsfree device staying on after the car's off & sapping the power. Car spends the night, comes back, everything works.

Fast forward today, car's dead again & this time, I have to go to work. And I mean, it's dead. No clicking sounds, power locks are just dead, meaning the key is the only way in & out. Thus, I have to call the dealer again. But, before I do, this time, I'm coming to you guys. I'm pretty sure these people just replaced the part & then left the same battery. That doesn't sound all that smart, esp. now.

So, Azine, please let me know what batteries you guys have.

And before someone says, "Jump start it", that doesn't work very well. We did that last time; took 10-15 minutes.

My battery died on me once so far, about 4 or 5 months ago. I didn't find out why it happened since I had to get to school - my dad came and had it taken care of.

If you have an '07, and you're < 50k, take it to the stealership, and they'll give you a free replacement.

What kind of batt are you replacing your TL with?

Do you have an aftermarket sound system?

I need to see what they say first before I let them put in another POS battery.

I don't know yet, that's why I'm asking what others have.

Sound system is stock.

Get the battery tested at any local auto parts store for free, to make sure the stealer isn't messing around with you.

Do they just randomly go out on 3rd gen TL's? I had it go out on my 05 when I was driving around with clients. I dont want the same thing to happen with this one. I'm at 45k already & 3 winters probly.

I'm running generic walmart brand $95.00 etc. no problems for along time, down fall is that I can't put the plastic cover back on.

Do you have and aftermarket system? Something is draining your battery or your Alternator can be bad and not charging the battery, even if battery is brandnew it will work for awhile and get drained again if alternator is bad check that? Trunk lights miscellaneus lights on?

anyhoo gl..

I still have the OEM battery (05TL 76K) and it's just starting to act up. I would tell the dealership to get you a new one.

How can you tell it's acting up? Mine just got up and went dead with no warnings. I'm usually pretty good about seeing, hearing or feeling anything different on my car.

If you can just run a MM in line with the negative cable with the engine off and see the draw.

I had the same thing happen to my 08 2 months after purchase. Went out one morning and nothing. Took it to the dealer who ran a complete check on the electrical system and could find no problem. Couldn't even offer a cause for it. The car has been fine since and that was 2 years ago. If in your case the dealer is blaming the HFL, I would have them replace it with a new one.

Well it went dead about 4 or 5 times already in the last 2 months and I had to jump it. I leave the radio on or lights for just a few minutes and the battery dies. I've been lazy to buy a new one but one day I'll get stuck somewhere

Where are you planning to buy a new battery? I've been thinking about getting one from Wal-Mart

They did that last time. That's why it shouldn't be an issue.

They took it today though. I should have put a mark somewhere on the battery so when the car came back, I could check & see if it was actually changed like I asked this time.

They gave me the excuse last time that the battery was fine, it was just the HFL device draining the battery.

Sounds like it could be the HFL module staying on after shutting the car down. There is a easy test for this... I did it in my driveway last night just to make sure mine wasn't staying on.

1. Do you have a bluetooth phone that is already synched with the Acura HFL?

2. If you do, start the car, roll down the windows in the car, and then shut the car off (remove keys).

3. Exit the car.

4. Make sure Bluetooth is operating on your cell phone.

5, If it is, place it on the dash or on car seat and see if the Acura HFL link lights up on the radio.

6. Also, check your mobile phone to see if it is synching with the Acura HFL (It should say searching).

7. Thats it. As long as the car is turned off and the keys are out of the ignition the HFL should not be operating.
If it is, then the HFL module is staying on and needs to be replaced.

No, I do not believe that is correct.
A normally-operating HFL should retain power for @20 minutes after the car is turned off and key removed, to permit the driver to finish a phone conversation.
The HFL and phone stay linked for that 20 minutes unless the phone is moved out of range or Bluetooth is turned off manually.

I have had luck with costco batteries in most of my cars, I use a Braille battery in the TL because I relocated it to the trunk and the Braille is very lite.

I'm on my 3rd OEM battery and my last one covered under warranty. My HFL was also the culprit ( it was diagnosd after the 2nd one died ). As long as they are under warranty, you might as well keep getting them for free.
It shouldn't be hard to mark your battery before you take your car in, then you will know they replaced it. Thats assuming your existing one still looks brand new.

Your battery is not dead, it's your starter. The lack of a clicking noise means that the starting is going bad.

No, when he can't even unlock his doors means his battery is dead. Which means the car has no power to even get the start to do the click. Did you not read his whole post seriously?

Mine turns off and on automatically, and the phone makes an audible beep each time it happens, and the backlight comes on in the phone.
If you continue to carry on a conversation after you shut off the ignition and remove the key, it will not operate through the bluetooth, but will transfer the call to phone only.

Mine continues to work after my key is removed. I have talked for 15 minutes before with everything off. So it doesn't turn off right away.

That's how mine works. I once talked on the HFL long enough after shutting the car off that the HFL powered off and transferred to the phone.

I wonder if this was a change after '05?

There is no effect to a call in progress on my TL if I turn off the ignition and pull the key-- the HFL continues to operate for @ 20 minutes.
I have transferred calls to the phone, walked away from the car and heard a beep when the phone Bluetooth disconnects from the HFL while talking on the phone.

Will Y, I have a 08 TL. As what I said before, when I turned the motor off and removed the keys, my cell phone was not in use, the HFL lost it connection IMMEDIATELY.

That said, if a person is still engaged in a call and turned the ignition off, it very well might continue to stay active for awhile.

The problem with jump starting it is that it mainly just gets the engine running enough for the alternator to start running to charge the battery. If the battery is completely drained, you need a charger to recharge that battery. Have you checked your alternator by chance? Another user had the right idea, take it to an auto parts store, i.e Kragen, AutoZone, Pep Boys, and they have machinery to check your electrical system (for free, of course). try checking that out first and go from there. Also make sure there aren't any lights that stay on at night. It seems that there might be a short in your electrical system somewhere. Have you touched any lights (tail lights, turn markers, etc) lately?

I just got my battery replaced (it only lasted a month) and now my radio is not turning on, and i mean not turning on as in it doesn't even ask for the code. Anyone know what the problem might be?
