High-pitched noise from speakers on cold startups

I am going to go ahead and assume it's the factory amp, but I just wanted some additional opinions.

Basically, my speakers crackle occaisionally on certain frequencies (like a long, drawn-out guitar chord at the end of a song and halfway through it crackles). I imagine this is the amp as well, and they are known to suck. However, when I get in the car in the morning and AUX is still selected but my iPod is off, I just hear: "EEEEeeEEeeeeEEEee!!!!!" until I power off the audio system. You can also hear it on XM and regular radio (and I assume CD but I never use those), but when sounds are playing it is less noticeable, but still present. The colder it is, the louder it is. It goes away after about 10 minutes when the car is warm.

Has anyone else experienced the high-pitched squealing on cold starts?

Same here. Had the same issue in my both Audis... I "fixed" it with a remote starter by the time I get into the car, it is already warmed up so the high-pitched noise is gone by then

I'm sorry I don't know why this is in general - I was trying to put it under "Problems & Fixes."

I want a remote start anyway... but can't afford it right now. Stupid new babies and their expensive needs...

I think that's a pretty solid culprit but can't say for certain. You can always try to pull the amp and check for bulged capacitors? Or maybe try and get an amp from a junk yard to test it? Electronics + extreme temperatures don't mix well. Oh and moisture.

Was gonna post that too PB thanks! *teamwork*

Problem is the caps don't seem to bulge for anyone with going out amps, so short of testing them by pulling them out, there's no really way.

That said, 99.9% sure this would fix it.

So... basically replace all the caps myself (LOL I barely have time to poop anymore with work/kids/wife) or replace the whole amp?

Piggy-back question: Can installing an aftermarket amp bypass this issue? I would need a separate amp for the interior speakers (4-channel?) and sub (mono), and I'd replace the sub with a small box anyway while I'm at it... but is this feasible or does the factory amp still need to exist in the chain?

Go ahead and read through this subforum: Audio, Bluetooth, Electronics & Navigation - AcuraZine Community

I haven't done much car audio in my TL so can't comment but I know a lot of other members. Any reason not to just stick to a new factory amp since it seems like you have a lot on your plate already?

You can replace the whole amp with a used one, but who knows if the problem will arise again.

You can probably find a used one at a junk yard...I'm not sure if the RL or Accord amps from the same era would fit but I'm guessing they would. Of course you won't get a guarantee they will work...

I'm also encountering this noise. Difference is im running a 5 channel amp for interior and mono amp for sub.
I had this set up for years without any issues. The crackling noise seems to only happen when the car sits outside in the cold. I only hear it from the drivers tweeter. after car warms up the noise goes away.

amps are MB Quartz , polk audio speakers, solo baric sub.

so this noise isn't limited to just the factory amp.
I wonder if I need to clean my vehicle ground connection or something.

Because I won't feel confident that swapping a defective part with a known-to-be-defective replacement (used or new) will solve the issue. I would just want to see the cost comparison to a basic replacement system (two amps, power wires/fuses, line-out converters and a sub). I'd prefer the better sound anyway, and I'd pay to have the bulk of the work done and only install the rear amp and sub after a shop did the wiring.

I imagine some of this might be crappy wiring in our cars if you only get it from one speaker. That wire may be failing.
