Hi Guys,
My HFL can not understand my command when I say "Pair Phone". I have an iphone 7 and it was paired before but somehow got disconnected. When i press HFL and say pair phone, it does some other commands like turn radio on or ac .... Is there any way to fix this issue? I have an 08 Tl with updated ios iPhone 7.

There is a chance that HFL went bad, but since it still responds to other commands maybe it's not all gone.
If it still doesn't understand you, because you happened to have a strong accent, use google translate to "speak" for you. Just get your phone close to the dome lights in the ceiling.

Thanks for the reply, but I followed that, and the HFL still NOT understanding my phone setup command. I dont have an accent and it used to pick up my voice command before. I did clear the check engine light via the navi few months ago, you think that has anything to do with it ?

There is a chance that HFL went bad, 'cuz that does happen.

 

It sounds like you're pressing the Voice Command buttons on the face of the steering wheel.
The Phone HFL buttons are on the back of the wheel, behind the Voice Command buttons- pull the upper switch to activate the HFL, lower switch to deactivate/end call.

 

I have the 08 tl w navi. The 2 small buttons are the voice command used for navi, radio, air...etc..and they work.
When I press the 2 big buttons above them -for the phone, I DONT hear the beep... I used to hear it before. The settings on the dash under HFL keeps saying "booting up" . IS THERE ANY FIX TO THIS ? I dont think there is a problem with the hfl or mic because the voice command for navi,radio... works.

I bet your HFL is toast. Happens to all of them sooner or later. Mine first stopped pairing with the phone, but commands worked. I tried to reflow it and it worked for couple weeks and failed again. It was probably over a year ago and I've given up on my HFL. There are better options.

 

Can you recommend a good quality bluetooth that be used for phone and music ? should I disconnect the hfl ? THANK YOU !

 

Disconnect the HFL so it doesn't drain your battery.

What do you mean reflow? I can get to the part where it says Pair, I enter the code and it tells me my phone needs to be in discovery mode, but that's as far as I get.

 

its a repair method for electronic circuit board, basically you heating the whole board up to the point lead starting melt and filled the micro crack area.
