HFL not working and the TSB 05-020
Ok so my HFL has not worked as long as I've owned the car (04 w/126k miles). I stumbled upon TSB05-020 which applies to 04 TLs within a certain vin range (mine is in that range).
My HFL freezes up during the pairing process. It freezes the radio also and the only way to unscrew it is to pull the battery terminal. This is trying to pair my Note 4 (not on the approved list) and my older note 2 (which IS on the approved list). I have also tried many other phones (some on the list, some not) and they all cause the HFL to freeze.
No battery drain issues what so ever.
I also noticed on the TSB it states "Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty
expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work."
To replace the HFL it must be manufactured before August 18th, 2004 (which I will confirm tonight when I get home).
Assuming mine was manufactured before the date above, and my car IS within that Vin range, do you guys think if I call Acura of Brookfield and tell them my HFL is freezing up and not working that they will replace my unit for free under this TSB? How should I approach them with it?
Thoughts?
Here is the TSB btw https://app.box.com/shared/ahv7hm987a

Goodwill consideration is YMMV per your dealer. Be nice and they mya consider it. They also take into consideration your history there (i.e. have you had work done there or will you in the future)
Or crystal ball or stars align... iuno f*** stealerships, we can't help here, your best bet is to go, suck up, be nice, and hope for the best . Or just go buy one and install it yourself.

So its entirely up to the dealership whether they will do the "goodwill" or not?
I haven't really done much business there. I took it there for a couple recalls but that is pretty much it.

Didn't know if zone office was an Acura thing or the dealership themselves.
Well, I guess I should have just called right away. The guy said they won't do any good will service on anything that isn't safety related? Yeah ok...
Well, it was worth a shot.

Honestly, I'd stay away from junkyards and just get a new one if you really want to use it.
You're looking to replace a recalled/notoriously broken part for another one.
Hell even the new ones aren't promised to last forever either. New or bust IMO. Check out our vendors, I think a new one can be had for ~100 something? (i'm spitballing here)

I'd skip the junkyard and either disassemble the current HFL and bake the IC board, or buy a new HFL from Oemacuraparts.com or Acuraoemparts.com for around $200. The HFL is found on vendor websites by searching for "Telephone assembly."
