HFL Not Working
HFL Not Working
Yes I know there are several threads on HFL's not working but I haven't found a solution yet. There is no way for me to get into contact with the previous owner for the password and I am not willing to pay 120 bucks so that Acura can reset it for me.
Everytime I try to get the bluetooth to work it says I have to say a 4 digit password, which I dont know. Is there anyway to get it to reset without doing any of the above methods. Would disconnecting the battery work? Helpful input is very much appreciated!!
Thanks

no disconnect the battery won't do the trick, I though that HFL let you syn up to 10 devices with 10 different pass. I will check that out tomorrow on my TL and will let you know, BTW where did you purchase the car? name Brand dealer/ small used car place or just from private party?
Oh silly dealers...
Here's how to do it:
You say a 4-digit password, and then your car will search for phones and connect to (hopefully) your phone. Then your phone will ask for a password in order to pair, and you will type the 4-digit password you just said to the car.
This might not work (it didn't for me; I think my car hates my phone and vice versa) so you will repeat the first few steps above, but also have your phone scan Bluetooth at the same time the car is scanning for your phone. Then, your phone will show a device that says "HandsFreeLink TM". You initiate pairing with your phone, and type in the 4-digit password you spoke into your car, and your phone will pair with the car.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3. Its not the phone that's the problem, its the fact that the previous owner had a pass code for the Bluetooth and I don't know it, which makes it unable for me to access the Bluetooth.
Try someone elses phone on the bluetooth. The 4 digit pin is what you punch into the phone when it finds the phone. You make it up when you pair the device. If you are not able to discover the phone then you will never get a chance to enter the pin that you selected. I have a Droid Bionic and I could never get it to paid with my HFL. Then my HFL died (stayed in the Booting mode). It works fine on my wifes MDX so there is definitely something with the unit in my 07 TL-s. I am looking for a new HFL now. To start pull the battery for a few minutes to reset everything....

ok after research I came up with three solutions for you.
1. You need to know the pass code or.
2. Take it to the dealer and have them reset.
3. You must purchase the Honda HDS scanner which cost same price if you would get charge from the dealer, but made in china (built quality could be shit).
I got my TL from Honda dealer therefore they reset the HFL prior to my purchase.
Edited: the real HDS unit is cost about $1500.

I have a similar problem - my bluetooth HFL worked great for years in my 06 TL but then stopped working about 2 months ago - at first I assumed it was my iPhone but after talking with Acura phone service they suggested trying my wife phone and when that didnt work either Acura said the HFL in the car was probably broken and would need a replacement - no idea how much that will be - UGG
Otherwise, a new HFL is @ $180 or so and will take about 10 minutes (or less, if you've taken ever pulled out the sunroof switch before) to install. The instructions and linked Acura bulletin are @ post #218 to about # 225 in that same thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=792642.
Most of us with Navi units have only had to replace the HFL module in the sunroof console to get everything working properly.
IDK if anyone here on AZ has ever had a problematic delay box (outside of those whose cars flooded), although the Acura bulletin refers to the delay box as the last step.
