Help with blackening out tails

Ok yesturday, i did my best to attempt to black out my tails. It seems straight forwards. I even got the tail lights out without taking off the bumper off my 06 tl. But my problem was, when i went to put on the clear coat everything ran!!! I mean the tint spray came off. Now is dere a waiting period to wait?? I did wait 1hr after my last tint coat, and applied the clear. Anyone with some experience, can ya give me sum feed back?

What was the temperature when you were spraying? If it was below around 60-65 then that could be one reason. Also if you used two different kinds of paint ( laquer, enamel) etc. If the tint spray was enamel and you used a laquer clear it would eat the tint spray right off.

Well, i went to autozone and grabbed rustoleum lense tint and right next to it was rustoleum crystal clear. I dont know wat kind of paint the tint was but da crystal clear was enamal. Im thinkin i didnt let the tint dry fully for 24 hours before i applied the clear. N with the finger prints would a clear coat hide it?

Oh OK. There's your problem. The rustoleum tint spray SUCKS!! I tried it and it goes on flat and doesn't last long. It's also almost impossible to spray light coats since it goes on so dark. My suggestion would be to strip all of the old tint spray off and go and get yourself some VHT Niteshades. With VHT you don't need any clear because it goes on gloss. Here is a pic of mine after VHT and before I wet sanded and buffed them. https://acurazine.com/forums/album.p...ictureid=40920

I took off the lights without completely taking off the bumper cover. I took off the three screwin in the wheel fender (both sides) then removed the two 10 mm bolts on top under the plastic covers.

this was after prepping, i sprayed sum wax and tar cleaner then rinse it off with sum water. Then i sprayed it with some plastic paint adhesive.

i aslo sprayed the rear side markers. The rustoleum lense tint are not bad, its all i had, i cant find the vht nightshades in store, and this was an impulse project cuz finally it was warm out and i finally got a day off of work. i wanted to clear coat for extra protection and extra shine, and maybe hide sum imperfections like finger prints.

it is kinda dark just for two coats. and also got a glossy shine. I did get da car washed. I also polished den wax the whole entire car. included da freshly painted lense. and it came out clean...

Get it done properly! Aerosol tints are garbage folks. Take it to a local body shop and ask them to do it. I paint for a living and do tons of these. If the painter there does not know how to do it then go to a different shop. It is easy, just add black base to some clear then put a couple coats and done.
