hard shifting in 2008 TL

I tried searching high and low and could not find a definitive answer.

I have a 2008 TL 3.2 in the AT flavor. I have noticed that when i get on it, the machine shifts hard...I understand it is a sports sedan and shifting hard/fast is the sportiness in it. I have also noticed that the low end power had diminished.

When I press the gas off the line, the pickup/peppiness is not there. I understand that the vehicle is heavy and isnt a ferrari, but I though I remembered it having more power than that! I have a friend with a V6 Honda and when he hits the gas off the line, his tires chirp.

I know I know that its bad that the tires break traction and I dont really drive my car all that hard...or often. Does anyone else have similar problems/stories? or should I just shove a cotton plug in and move on? haha!

Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post!
