Gas gauge issue

Gas gauge issue
Wasn't sure where to put this one....
Is there a way to program when the gas gauge tells me I'm low? According to the owners manual, we have a 17.something gas capacity....twice now when the reminder that the gas is low goes off and I refill it, I am only putting in 12-13 gals to top off the tank....
Is there some way to program this idiot reminder so that instead of a 4 gallon reserve there is more like a one or two gallon reserve?
This is my first Acura....its an 08 Automatic TL w/ Navigation which I just bought used in November....still wearing the Temporary tag!
Any thoughts or suggestions from the owners that have had theirs longer than me?

This is common to the 3G TL. There are lots of threads on this. The reminder light comes on with roughly 4 gallons left. Don't believe it is changeable. Some folks after having their car for awhile know what they can get per tank. YMMV - but I can easily get 400 miles per tank.

Some posts by user Ron A () in particular should help understand the relationship between notification and the "reserve" in the tank.

Well has anyone tried to adjust the gas gauge by adjusting the sender? I know some of the older cars the flat was attached to a wire which activated the sender. I wonder if this would be possible? I'm not looking for 100% accuracy....just something closer than four gallons!!
Also while I'm at it, has anyone ever contacted the dealerships to see if there is a service bulletin on this...sounds like its pretty wide spread so the Company should know about it.

The 4 gallon reserve is designed to keep you from running the car very low or out of gas since the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank. I don't think Acura considers this a design defect.

When the light comes on: You got ~3.2 gallons
When the range goes to 0: You got ~2 gallons
