Can you smell it if the car is idling, but you have the fan on full blast?

What does it smell like? Burning rubber, mold/mildew, electronics, oil?

A little more info would be helpful.

How about the filter for the vents? Maybe some moisture is getting into it.

I read this on another site. If it's related to mold/mildew in the vents, you can try this:

"don't forget to deodorize the heat/vent/air conditioning (HVAC) system. Spray the very mild water/chlorine bleach mixture (2-3% bleach at most) in the air intake with your system fan on high and cycle it through the different modes. Mold/mildew can get into these area's and cause a bad smell every time you turn on the system."

Not sure it that will work or not, but it's something to try..

I wonder if I could get the dealer to do this cuz if something goes wrong, they'll have to fix it... I've gotten this maybe 3-4 times in 7 months, but the strange thing is, it doesn't happen all the time, even with hard acceleration...

I get the rotten egg smell too...There are many threads on this issue, the rotten egg smell is sulphor which should be released from the exhaust on hard acceleration of the cat. converter! However it shouldn't come into the cabin, my cousin told me its cause the mixture is rich under WOT but others have said its abnormal and possibly my engine is not mixing the air/gas properly...

I just noticed the same "rotten egg" smell the other day, and it was BAD. I've only had the car for about a week, but if I was guessing, it has something to do with the cats. I don't know if it's because they're plugged up or what, but if someone knows how to fix this, please shed some light on the subject.

Alrighty... I found out what the "rotten egg" smell is. I called the dealership to find out about it. The service manager told me that it comes from the cats when you mix fuels. To be honest, I mixed 94 octane with a different brand of 89 octane, and that day is when I started noticing the smell. He recommended that you stick to one brand and one octane (premium). My mother-in-law had the same smell in her Lexus a couple years ago and this is what the Lexus dealer told her as well. Hope this helps.

Exactly guys, DO NOT mix fuels, and Stay with the same octane. This is important. Make sure you find a few different gas stations as I've personally noticed an EGG smell even with 91+ Holiday gas.

I'm only BP / Mobil / Marathon and now and the smell vanished.

make sure your vents are open when you turn your car off.... if you dont, the water in the cabin filter will collect the bacteria and create the mildew smell....

if that dosen't work... read up on here:
