Full Synthetic vs High mileage engine oil

Full Synthetic vs High mileage engine oil
I have a 06 acura TL base with 212,XXX miles on it. Very dependable and drives amazing. My question is I’ve been using high mileage oil on it and I was recommended by a mechanic to switch a full synthetic oil as it would benefit the engine more and is just overall a better choice. What are your opinions on this? Does it make a real difference? Also recommendations on a good oil filter?

High Mileage and Full Synthetic are not mutually exclusive. You can find oil that's both and that's what I do. I usually use whatever is on sale/cheapest from a decent brand (usually SuperTech) and change every 8k. Oil filter doesn't matter much either, just make sure to change it every time. Any filter you find at wally world will work, I've tried them all.

I use this in my 07 Type S with 204,1xx -
I use to use this filter - but for some odd reason Amazon doesn't have it anymore...wish they did. The link sends me to another filter, hell I dunno where the CAS7317 went?
So I'll just use this filter -

I second supertech. Used it for a long time and never had issues. People are weary because of the price and I get that. I’ve seen some comparisons of supertech and other oils and I feel comfortable using it still. I’d use the full synthetic high mileage. Mines got 173k now.

I bought the high mileage mobile 1 oil last time.. And it is a lot darker than other oil that I have used. I dont really like the dark oil , even if they presumably add amber color to the oil. But this was more like like brown.. The reason I say that is because I watch a video on Project Farm (youtube) and the guy said that the manufacturer said their oil was actually clear ... they just add amber it to give it color. So that may explain why some oil is darker than others. I actually like it more clear. That way you can visibily see how dirty it is.. or burned or whatever happens to it. So ya that mobile 1 high mileage is just too dark for me. I dont care how great it is.. I think if you have a high mileage car, then just sticking with the normal oil, and maybe going up to 5w-30 instead of 5w-20 maybe be just as benficial.. but I dont know.. I am not a engine scientist.

My opinion is at this point in your car's life it's not going to matter much. I too go with the Super-tech (5w20 Synthetic blend). If you change it regularly (I do mine at 5000 miles) it doesn't really matter.

This is the truth lol. Just change the oil. Don’t use canola.

First I would be careful switching from conventional oil to synthetic on a high milage engine. I have had a car that I switched from some unknown conventional oil to synthetic and within a 100miles the rear main seal started leaking. If you have gotten 200k plus mikes with the conventional oil I would stick with that.
Second oil color comes from the different additives that are in the oil. A darker oil will typically have more moly in it. Moly is dark Grey to black in color so you will see oils higher in moly to be darker in color. And no oil is not clear.
