Last Monday, my car started making a flutter/whine noise from the front of the vehicle. This noise only happens when I slowly accelerate into 5th gear going between 45 mph and 50mph. As soon as it shifts into 5th, the rmps will drop and the flutter/whine noise start. Someone else explained the noise of my car like it didn't know if it wanted to be in 4th or 5th gear. I do not have this sound if I stomp of the gas. The car is driving completely normal, other than this flutter/whine. Has anyone else had this happen? is it a torque convertor or a transmission issue? help!

 

Just a swag but this sounds like it might be the intermediate shaft heatshield rattle. I had this in the same scenario, highway cruise, low rpms, with slight to moderate pedal.

 

Can you explain a little more on how to fix this? Are you saying could be a loose heatshield?

 

Hi Jessica. Check in the TSB area for one named Pinging, Rattling, or Squealing During Light Accel.
I just tightened and bent my heatshield a little, 95% better.
