Flashing check engine light

Hey guys,

I was out for a bit of a spirited drive last night, when I got on a long straight road and decided to go for some decent speed.

I was going about 120km/h (75mph) when I put the pedal to the floor. Once I dropped a gear (auto) and started to pull I saw the check engine light flash 5 or 6 times, then disappear.

Any idea what this could have been from??

Very odd and I have never seen it before.

Any input is appreciated.

This.

Flashing CEL means the engine is currently misfiring. It's standard OBD II code. Check your plugs and wires.

What year is the car? 04? Its not your tranny.

Please read this. Very common for 04s

You need to check the TSB page if your car is a 2004. There is a flash for the PCM to fix this issue. DON'T spend a bunch of money on plugs and wires. The issue is false misfire codes.

Yep, exactly why I asked you what year your car was. Certain VINs (maybe all, can't remember) in 04 will get false CELs at high RPMs (believe it's over 5000 or 5500, or maybe VTEC) and there is a PCM/ECU reflash that will fix this.

If you have an 04, have your dealer look up your VIN. They can tell if your car has had this TSB done or not.
