f&%ckin A...the head broke off

to the screw for my license plate frame. Anyone know if the female piece in the trunk lid can be easily replaced?

I'd just use the other holes, but I only use the top two holes with my license plate frame...so at the moment, no frame for now

How much of the head broke off, can't you try to unscrew it using a pair of small tweezers?

It's a PITA, but you can always get an Easy Out.

To use it, you basically have to drill out the center of what's left of the bolt, insert the Easy Out in there (it has reverse threads) and use a Vise-Grip or a square head to unscrew it.

I bought a set last month when the fill plug on my jeep's TC (hex) was stripped and I couldn't get it out to refill the TC. Worked like a charm! Anyone who does their own work will eventually have the need for this product.

I bought mine at a local NAPA store..

yeah, and I've got a set, but that only solves the first of two problems. The screw that was in there was cross-threaded a long time ago, which will make the easy out even MORE difficult than it would normally be.

I called my local dealer and the parts department told me they could see a part number for the bottom two holes, but not the top two. This leads me to believe that the holes are part of the $300 assembly...ugh.

So it seems that I can either:
1) tap out the old screw and cross-thread another one in there...ugh
2) look for a TL in a yard and get the whole assembly from salvage.

I sure hope I can just replace the piece.

I see two options after the cross threaded bolt is removed. First, drill out the existing bolt hole so it's;

1) slightly larger then re-tap the hole for a larger bolt or;

2) install a Heli-Coil. See page six of this Threads And Threading instructional link for details.
