I have it too, only noticeable when im driving slow. I have 6mt @ 67k
Im thinking a bearing somewhere or maybe alternator whine but i've been too busy to investigate.

I heard that it was a belt tensioner, but I could be wrong... Mine does it too.

yes, if worn out, or pump has a bad bearing, it will be loud enough to hear even at idle.
id be able to tell u whats whining if i was in front of the car looking and listening...its hard to point out a noise from here lol...just giving you possibilities.
example, when the accessory tensioner gets lose it will rattle, make squeeky noises etc.

so if its a continous whine, im almost positive its the steering pump going bad. im just speaking from my own experience with every possible noise that came outta my engine bay lol.

you still gotta check for urself though...i can't be too sure. but let us know what you find

My car has the same whine as the op, I doubt it's the p/s pump as described by you since it only happens in 1st & 2nd gears.. so you wouldn't be able to hear it standing in front of the car. It really does sound like a faint supercharger sound. Subscribed - curious to know toooo.

Yes i the whine is only common in 1st and 2nd gear, and sometimes its not even thier. And i only have 15k miles i dont think its a p/s failure
