Engine Oil after 100 k miles.

Hello there,

Need some advice on engine oil after 100 000 miles. What would you recomend to keep my car in tip top shape? I don't want any engine clicking. Also i'm concerned about Viscosity grades cuz i live in NYC and weather is changing every 2 hours and it could be very cold during the winter time Any suggestions?

that wasn't helpful. what kind of synthetic? 10/30 , 5/30? 15/40, 10/40? M1, Redline? Amsoil?

I have run Royal Purple, Mobile 1 and Pennzoil Ultra in 5W-20 variety. These oil threads are well traveled and can be found by using the search function. 5W-30 is also a legit option.

10/30 will not do anything for you vs. 5/30. The choice is yours to make, but I see no reason to go with 10/30.

Run the specified weight.
Branding is all subjective. I use mobil 1 and I'm sure some people here will tell you that's crap.

You are asking very subjective questions that do not have 100% universally correct answers. If you are so worried about the oil in your car after 100,000 miles, go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and spend a few weeks reading about everything you could possibly ever want to know about oil. When in doubt, go with what the manufacturer suggests.

You don't need to start doing anything special once the odo says 100,000.

Most modern oils are fine, just change it frequently. If you're looking for the ultimate in protection, something like M1 EP 5w20 / 5w30, or Penzoil Ultra are good oils you can generally find locally. Combine that with a good filter and it's about as good as you can do.

If you're really interested in knowing why this stuff matters, consider getting your used oil analyzed by a lab like Blacksone, or hang out on bobistheoilguy forums.
