I have noticed knocking in the engine when the car starts up when its fully cold, like over night. I still have 1 year left on of my warranty power train only... I change oil each time @10% and when I get it changed, I make sure to get it from bottle, with cleaner Mobile ... My car has 77k Miles on it... wonder what the f its causing it.

After I drive it for a sec, the noise goes away.. like oil got everywhere and its quiet... it only does it when its cold... drives me crazy! No leaks, no nothing....

Suggestions?

 

all J-series engines display this "tap tap tap" characteristic when cold.

its nothing to be concerned of.


From Honda Accords to Acura RL's....every car with a J-series engine will display this characteristic

 

Are you sue, ??? it didn't do that before. and seems to be getting louder and louder.... drives me insane... never heard of that before.. i don't drive that car hard, but I don't drive it like a grandma either...

are you sure it isn't the bitchy GF sitting in the passenger seat that's making the noise when she's cold and quiets down when she warms up?

here is the build, I had one on here but i guess, there was to many pictures and admin got pissed the F off and took it off... not done yet, work in progress, a lot of work will be completed this weekend. And it plays, loud and clear, I cant wait to put that Ground Zero Sub in the custom box !

Looks like I found my own problem. wonder if anyone else had the same issue.
Yes the belt tensioner is most likely your noise, its common for the v6 honda's once they get up in the mileage as oil from the tensioner slowly leaks past the seal and it looses some of its tension and starts smacking back and forth since it has play in it. my accord hybrid did this earlier this year along with 4 other customer cars' of mine i have seen. Once it warms up noise goes away as it gets better with the ambient heat of the engine warming it up.

I replaced the belt tensioner on my car, as I did the 105k mile service....still have tapping.

 

Two different noises. A failing tensioner is much louder and more obnoxious than the standard J series ticking. Sounds like a bad pushrod lifter or exhaust leak. Mine sounds horrible till it warms up. Will be replaced next month at the 105k service.
