Engine control module to be replaced

2006 TL here

Engine cranks but would not start (TPMS message flashes on dashboard), towed to Acura dealer and states:

engine control module to be replaced because of water intrusion from A/C evaporator case.
Due to unclog case drain tube...WTF?

Is this legit??

Thanks for any input

Afraid so-- this does happen, because overflow of a plugged A/C drain tube will cause water to drip on the ECM/ECU/PCM, which is located on the floor of the console tunnel behind the audio stack.

Now, the interesting question: what was clogging the drain tube?
If you search for terms regarding water and fried ECM/ECU, several threads here on AZ mention that mechanics or oil change shop employees will sometimes put a bolt in the end of the A/C drain tube to stop condensation from dripping on them while changing oil or working on the car. Then they forget to remove the bolt to unplug the A/C drain, resulting in condensation backing up and dripping onto the ECM... A couple of Acura techs ran into several cases of this.

FYI, a fried ECM can cause misfires and fried ignition coil packs, so don't be surprised if the car needs new coil packs.

G/L; hope you get things fixed.
