Angry Driver's Side Window Fell Apart

My flippin driver's side window just fell apart inside the door - with my window down!! Mind you, it's 106* outside right now - and I have to work for the rest of the day.

URGH I'm so mad!!! I've had this car for less than 10 days! Anyone know or have an idea if this is a job we can do at home?? My husband's a mechanic and I didn't hear the glass shatter, so as far as I know the window itself is still intact. But I heard tons of parts fall inside the door panel.

that sucks!

its easy to pull the door panel off. once off, you can then look and asses the damage/determine what to do next.

there are about 5 or 6 Philips head screws.
Once they're out, you just pop the clips and the door panel should lift off.

Yeah, it's not too difficult at all. Then you can see what might be broken. Hopefully it's a cheap plastic piece that can be quickly ordered and replaced.

I'm not sure if the resolution will pertain to your situation, but on my Accord, the window just fell inside the door. I was able to fix it at home by pulling off the door panel and replacing the window regulator and motor ($80 at Autozone).

So maybe it's the window regulator and motor?

Most likely the belt/motor/whatever the hell hold the window up. I think there are like 4 screws if I remember properly. Two are behind the plastic cover on the inside of the door where the handle it. One is on the inside of the door where the grip to close the door is, down a tiny ass black hole and the third is on the bottom middle edge of the door there is a little black bumper with a screw through it. Then just pry the door around the edge and it will pop off. Be sure to unhook the door handle wire and unplus the harness for the speakers and memory buttons

Was it CPO? If so, is it worth having the dealer do it?

^^^

if its a CPO i would take it to the dealer....if not then removing the door panel is easy...this window prolly just came off the track and fell inside....

here is a DIY to remove the door panel....

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/kp-technologies-window-roll-up-module-install-3g-garage-i-097-a-596643/

good luck and let us know what happens....

also if your not comfy doing all this, I would call someone who works with windows and pay him/her to do the task, should be pretty inexpensive....

I'd swear I'd read about other users having the window fall out of the track. Don't recall fixes/DIY repairs though.

Although, here are a couple more DIY's that might be helpful:

Window didn't fall off the track. Don't know technical terms, but the cap on the spool broke off and caused the motor to go wonky. New one ordered, will be here Thursday. My baby is garaged until then. Sorry so short, on my cell.

Nah, I don't think so.

Looking at the pictures in the photo gallery, her car has a badly mis-matched front bumper, and really hazy headlights.

Glad you found out what it was OP.

Unfortunate to hear, but don't feel bad.

When I bought my car, a week later, the starter died.
To make things worst my starter died, at a friends house, not in my driveway.

$200 later, things are good.

The previous owner decided to pay the expense though.
He was awesome; 30 day warranty lol

Certified Pre Owned. If you dont know what it is chances are it isn't. If it was a dealer purchase they'd be waving that all around as a selling point.

+1

In addition, if you bought your TL privately, it's not a CPO.

Pretty sure "wonky" is an accepted technical term.

AH! I know what Certified Pre-Owned is, but never put it together that that's what CPO stood for. I'm on track now.

Anyway - did not buy her from a dealer - she was from a used lot. I'm trying really hard not to call and rip them a new one, but it's owned by a guy my husband went to HS with. You'd think that he would have taken better precautions in sending us home with something.

Whatever. I'm so blessed to be married to a mechanic. The new regulator will be here tomorrow and only cost us $23 something from AutoZone. My baby should be up and running by the weekend - which MAY mean stripping my nasty tint off this is back on!

Prissy, you should have talked to me. I have a spare window regulator from an '03 Honda Civic that might have worked for you. Oh well.

exact same thing happened to me last year. took car to dealer and asked service manager for goodwill and he agreed at 10%. i only paid thirty bucks for the whole thing and they washed my car for free. i was lucky but it also pays to have some service history with a reputable dealer.

I have the worst luck.
Our regulator came in yesterday, so we went to Auto Zone and brought it home, only to figure out that they only ordered us the motor - when we need the entire assembly! The cord that wraps around the spool is kinked in too many places for it to be reused and run smoothly.
Hopefully the Honda dealership in Lawton will have one in stock. If not, we'll have to order one online and wait for it to ship. This bites!

You mean they added swirls and messed up your paint for free?
