drivers side headlight problem

at this point i need all the help i can get. two weeks ago my drivers side headlight went out. i assumed it was the bulb, but what was weird about the situation was that both the high and low beams went out at the same time. so i bought a new bulb for both, replaced them, and nothing happened. i then took it to a shop to have the problem diagnosed. they claimed it was the control unit (ballast). i am a do it yourself kinda guy, and had taken the front bumper off before to install my CAI. so i ordered a new control unit and installed it. still nothing. can SOMEONE help me out here? i just want to be able to drive at night. its not the control unit/ballast, and its not the bulb. someone help!

I had the same problem and found out that I had 2 a blown fuses. But if this is not the cause of the problem then you may have a bad "ignitor" since you said the ballast is funtioning properly. But before you purchase a new ignitor - take the old ignitor off the working headlight and test it on the new ballast to see if it works.

I hope this info helps!

ill def take a look at that. last night out of no where, it came on for a second, then went back off, and has been doing that a few times today. also, how hard is the ignitor to get out of one side and in to the other. im sure im capable of doing it, im just curious. and since its coming on occassionally now do u think it could still be this?

Good advice to swap sides and see what happens. I doubt it's a fuse or both lights would be out.

FWIW, the TL has no bright light bulbs. It only uses one bulb and a reflector that changes position when you hit the brights.

oh good info. the other bulb must be the fogs. if its not the control unit/ballast, and its not the ignitor, what else could it be?
