Drive Door Rattle - Window Down

I just took delivery of my 2005 TL with 6 miles on it. Unfortunately, there is a rattle when the driver's side window is down and you shut the door. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

Of course it's under warranty so the dealer will look at it, but any info I can get beforehand would be appreciated.

Thanks

That seems to be normal. I just shut the door a little softer with the windows down.

I don't think its normal because I tested other TLs and they don't rattle when the window is down and the door is shut. Also, the ratle isn't on any of the other doors.

Something seems wrong.

This is definitely normal across 2004 TLs, at least. When the windows are down, it makes a loud rattle when you close the door. It makes a very odd "clank" sound.

Do a SEARCH and you will find a lot more threads about this.

I have a '04 TL and none of the doors rattle when I close the door normally. I'm not in the habit of slamming the doors, but yesterday a friend who ownes a VW drove my car. When he closed the door, he slammed it so hard the change flew out of the change holder into the door pocket. I guess owning a VW requires slamming the door to close properly. The point is, closing the door normally doesn't cause any rattle, so maybe you're closing the door too hard.

Make sure you try it with the window down. It makes a difference.

I posted this in another thread, but see if this is it...

I went to the dealer with a complaint about a rattle coming from that area. It sounds like the pillar or along the top of the window... sometimes down by the vent.

Try this... get in the car and shut the doors and windows... then have somone outside grab your driver side mirror and wiggle it up and down.

The tech at the dealer did that to me and DANG it was loud!! AND was the exact rattle. They did something to tighten up the mirror or pad and if was fixed.

The odd thing is I would have never thought it was the mirror cause of the noise it was making and where I thought the noise was coming from. The sound really carries down the pillar and the top of the door.

Hope the helps.

Funny, my current TL (built in February 05) does not have this problem. But when I was looking at a TL built in July 05, it rattled like crazy. I have a hunch it may be a lame mid-production attempt to fix the window scratching complaint talked about ad nauseum elsewhere on this board. I think there are tension adjusters that can be adjusted to find a happy medium.

Yeah, that's what I claimed to begin with but others disagreed.

Well, I don't think you can say they all do it without actually testing every TL ever produced. But I do hear you; you can walk the lot and test several cars and I'm confident you'll find some that do it. That being said, mine does not rattle, so I know it's possible to build one that doesn't rattle. In fact, I'm looking for a replacement TL (for a paint defect issue - long story) and I can't find an anthracite colored TL that doesn't have this window rattle issue.

Thumbs down

i had the same thing, the dealer told me that these cars do not have a support beam for the window when it is down and that all of them have this "normal" condition.

That sounds like a typical line from the dealer. If he's right, then I guess mine is not "normal" because it does not do this. Since I have to go to my dealer soon to deal with my replacement vehicle, I'm going to demonstrate that mine does not do this and find one on the lot that does and see what they have to say. This will be fun.

Yep. Me too. Quite anoying at times i might add. I love this car but find it hard to believe that Acura would let this issue slide. Idiots.

Has anyone with that loud and nasty window noise problem found a soulution? I have been wanting to tint my front windows, but the dealer suggested that I wait until they fix the problem so as to avoid any warrantee problems. Unfortunately, I don't think that they will be able to fix the noise that comes from the door when the window is half way open. They have already tried changing out the window regulator. That was useless.
