Drifty feeling 2007 TL Type S

OK guys, I am not sure how to describe this, but I am gonna try. The steering feels tight and responds well, but there is a weird sensation when I am driving and I am having a hard time describing it. Basically, when I am on the freeway, I feel like I have a really hard time keeping the car straight. Not like an alignment issue, but the car kinda drifts from side to side, almost like the road conditions are guiding the wheels to turn. Like I said, hard to explain, but does anyone know what could cause this or where a good place to start looking would be? The steering is tight, but there is some initial give where the steering wheel feels loose and the car drifts and it's hard to keep it straight. It's very subtle, and I just got the car, so not sure if it's the sport suspension and I am just not used to it.... any thoughts would be appreciated!

What state are your tires in?

If they are worn, you may be feeling the effects of low grip on a FWD car at speed?

I feel this too. Your right though, it's hard to explain. I just assumed it was normal after a while.

I haven't noticed any of this in my Base '06. This part bothers me a little bit:

I don't think you should be having any free play in the steering wheel. I've driven a car like that (not a TL) and it is very scary. I believe there was an issue with the steering rack and/or tie rods on the non-TL car I'm talking about.

Yeah, maybe just a combination of older tires, spring/struts, etc. Nothing big, just felt odd.

my car tends to drift to the left, it won't keep straight. It might be a wheel alignment problem.

I had an alignment done but the problem was still there. Im going to get my tires rotated next oil change and see if that helps.

Quality of tires has a huge effect on how TL's ride and handle. They are almost always the cause on complaints like yours. Tire Rack has great testing and customer feedback, when selecting tires.

If you haven't touched the tires or suspension on your car, maybe it's because it's a windy day in your area?

Just a thought. My car does this a lot on a windy day.

Tramlining does seem like your issues though -shrugs-

When is the last time you got alignment done ? And also is your car a rebuilt title ?

In our modified RX7 Turbo with the wider tires and light car, one would think there is a demon grabbing the wheel to direct the car left or right, depending on the road conditions, but it's just the nature of the car. Our knock around '08 travels the same roads and never a problem with movement and the TL will only do it slightly depending on the road.

The road's uneven surface can cause a car to pull to the left or right. The edge of the tires will climb up the ruts or high side of the road surface they are rolling over. This happens most noticeably on low profile tires and moreso the farther they are worn down.

I'm waiting to get out on a track that is smooth by daily driving comparisons and put my foot down and see what the front end does.
