Door wont open....

Just picked my car up from thw windown tinting place and the passenger side rear door wont open. The guy said he tinted the window and put the interior door cover back on and now the door wont open.

I tried manually grabbing the door unlock pole with needle nose and it wont budge up or down. When i hit the electronic locks upfront i hear it making noise but it wont open.

They told me the 1/2 car tinted is free and to send them a bill. Some of the tint has small bubbles so either way im pissed. The nearest acura dealer is over an 1hr. Wtf, any suggestions?

ok, should i rip the tint off now or get them to do it later? I dont know since it was done a couple of hours ago if it'll easily peal off or if it will be as difficult later.

They did a $hit job and i dont want it on the car. I assume after reading that the guy pulled the panel off too hard and broke the green wire harneess clip and maybe thats why the door wont unlock.

I cant get the interior panel off because the door is locked shut

If they said they would pay for I'd definetely take advantage of that. Tint on the other hand can take up to 2-3 weeks to Fully Cure and i believe they also advise not rolling down the windows for 3-5 days. Hope this helps
(The Bubble's are actually normal sometimes with fresh new tint, they will go away)

does the door lock move up and down at all? Does the interior door handle have any sort of resistance or is it just pulling in and out without any effect? Exterior door handle? Is it making a buzzing noise of any sort?

no noise, interior handle has no resistance because the green clip that holds the wire harness in when u pull the handle is broke. I used 2 needle nose to pull the wire to open the door and it wont open. I think when he put the panel on the child security lock got engaged so the door wont open from the inside.

Now from the outside the handle doesnt feel attached to a linkage. I think somehow something came loose so now the door is screwed with the panel on. Im taking it to a honda dealer nearby on monday to see if they can do anything because im out of ideas.

When you hit the unlock/lock switch on the front doors the manual puller goes up and down. My guess is the door is unlocked but the child safty is on and the linkage or whatever to the outside door handle is off.

That's ridiculous. Did you pay for the tint job? If so I'd get a refund, plus make them re-tint it.

You have a door to fix because of them.

If i made them retint it then they probably break something else because the kid there doesn't know what hes doing.

If anything I will drive 3 hrs to go to "shades of grey" tinting in philly because I know they are reputable and cheaper. 180.00 vs the 320.00 I was about to pay.

I figured that I was paying more money for a professional job, guess not....

Nearest Acura dealer to me is 2 hrs away at Bobby Rahal acura.

Do you think the company should have to compensate me the my personal time that I have to invest to get this fixed? I know they said they would pay the bill but what about my time?

Most likely I will have to take a day off of work to do this drive in HOPES that it can be fixed the same day and parts wouldnt need to be ordered. So your talking about gas/mileage/missed work/personal time.

I already invested 3 hrs of my own time trying to fix the door and I realize this isnt a easy fix because the door panel needs to come off and it cant.

Would would you do? I work mon-fri 7-330pm and the service hours are mon-fri 7-5pm. I have to call of work

williamsport is where I am located....

Well I left work 5.5 hrs early and drove 2hrs 100 miles to Bobby Rahal Acura. I was quoted 560.00 for the repair.

The tech said the door panel will have to be abused and damaged in order to remove which will cost 328.00 to replace. Then a green clip to the inner door handle that is broke and a new latch for the door.

He said something is jamming the latch....

So.....

Should the window tint company have to pay? Whos at fault?
I called the manager and he told me thats too much and i agreed to have a 2nd opinion at a local honda dealer. I only agreed because acura said the parts had to be ordered so no matter what i was driving back home without it fixed.

My wife thinks the tint company should fix the car and re-imburse me for mileage/time off work taken.

What do you guys think?

Also I took the car to a different tint shop and they agreed its a crappy job and he couldnt believe what i was getting charged for it.

Sorry to hear this. I'd get the tint shop to foot the bill. That's what they should do.

well honda has a labor rate around 65/hr where as acura is 94/hr so maybe thats why he wants me to go there.

The total amount of labor allowed for the fix is 2hrs. Its not like he would be saving huge like switching to Geico....

Play hardball with the manager. Get it fixed at the Acura dealer. They broke it, they fix it. If he gives you any crap, tell him he'll be hearing from your attorney.

If they are even remotely professional, they should have insurance to cover things like this.

Went to a local honda today, quoted 512.00 to fix. Called the tint company and asked them if they wanted the actual paper quote and they said "no, just get it fixed and sorry about everything". So im scheduled to get it fixed next tuesday.

Should i make them pay for me leaving work early to drive 200 miles to acura? So far I have invested 220 miles and 7 hrs of my personal time just to try to get my car fixed.

You can try, but probably won't get it.

ok heres an update:

I had honda order the parts on a friday and last tuesday i dropped off my car and they said it might get done the same day since the parts were there. I get a call late that day and was told that they ripped off the door panel and found that I also need a door wire that needs to be ordered and might be in the next day, so i said ok.

Friday comes around and they said the part hasnt arrived yet, WTF.... I told them i would have paid for overnight shipping if I knew that i wouldnt have my car for 4 days. I demanded they give me a loaner car since I was mislead thinking it was gonna be done in one day. Needless to say they gave me a beater accord to drive around.

So nobody called me today and tomorrow will be a full week without my TL, all for a stuck door latch.

This is some BS.....

ps.... I'll take pics of the tint when i get my ride back

That sucks, I broke the green thing on the cable inside the door when changing my speakers. I just put some duck tape to hold it together and allow it to fit real snug on the bracket and havent looked back since. I do plan on changing the cable but after reading your post I wont take it to the dealer, 500 dollars is nuts.

Got the TL back!!!

The total bill came to 622.00

I paid it myself since I wanted my ride back so now I just have to get the tint place to reimburse me plus an additional $115.00 for mileage. I decided to give them 30 days, if its not paid by then Im taking them to small claims court and going after another 210.00 for me missing 5 hrs of work and another 2.5 hrs of personal time invested getting the car fixed.

Im not letting them redo the tint. Ill just go to philly and let http://www.shadesofgraytint.com/ retint the car

If its nice out tomorrow I will take pics of the tint that is on the car now.
