Door rattles root cause
Hi All,
I was complaining a few weeks ago about some rattles coming from driver/passenger doors without knowing what they were caused by, however I think I've got to the bottom of it.
Yesterday was a very hot day around here (around 100 F) and after living my car parked outside for about 8 hours all rattles disappeared. Unfortunately they came back next morning when outside temperature dropped.
Here is my theory: the root cause for these front door rattles are the weatherstrips.
I have the feeling that after a few months or maybe year (depending on climate) the weatherstrips tend to modify their properties becoming less elastic hence generating rattles when driver's/passenger’s widow is closed.
I bet if I replace my weatherstrips my car will be rattle free again.
What do you guys think?

It sounds good on paper, but my car is an 05 and the day I drove it home from the dealer (car had 16 miles on it) the drivers side window/door rattled. It continues to do so now, no matter the temperature outside.
I've heard everything from put silicone on the door seals to check the seatbelt mounting bolt and none have worked for me, but I've not had much time to mess with it lately.
One thing I found interesting is the black trim that goes along the top of the door on the exterior will make a nice clicking sound if you push on it slightly and when I get a chance, I'm going to see if I can't put some double sided tape under it to fill the space between it and the door. Beyond that, I'm at a loss and am open to any and all suggestions....
