Thumbs down eBay imitation lid spoiler - a bad review

Well, most of you here I know I am not one to give a negative comment unless it's well deserved. I must now say with a high degree of confidence that the ebay spoilers are a waste of money.

I paid Trimking1 $199 for my lid spoiler (he seemed the highest quality after reading here about exsperiences)

In about 1 month, I noticed some "pitted" looking areas in the rear lower edge of the spoiler, so that the edge had little pits and was not a straight line. Uopn further inpection, I noticed little cracks, as well as these pits.

Then, the left side began to come uptaped from the car. I had cleaned the surface fairly well and was very suprised by this. Trying to stick it down harder just didn't work, so tonight I removed it entirely.

One good thing I will say is that taking it off didn't hurt my paint... however looking at the botom edge now that it is off, I can see some pretty severe pitting and cracking along the bottom rear edge.

Two thumbs down. If you have one, take a good look at where the edge meets the trunk to make sure yours isn't doing this as well.

I'm contacting him to try and get a replacement but since it has been over a month now I doubt he will believe me I didn't damage it myself. Here's hoping.

That sucks man! But maybe you just got a bad one. Give the guy a chance to make it better. He may surprise you.

You may want to throw in your ties to the "Acurazine community". That may help. If not, I'd be very

Let us know what he says when you contact him.

I've been working on a "one-off" version of the Mugen 3-piece they make for the 2nd generation for my NBP. I almost have my shape where I like it, then it'll get 'glassed, sprayed and installed. I personally am not a huge fan of either the lip or wing spoilers on the 3G, but think my one-off will complement the car the best.

I have to amend my review and say that Trimking1 IMMEDIATELY replied to my concern tonight and said a new one will be shipped to me! That's service. They are also going to pick up the old one at no charge for return.

Mine's came perfectly painted (SSM), as good as the factory job, and has never come unglued...did you prep the surface before attaching it?

yes i cleaned the surface thouroughly before taping it, and it did nto have any wax on either. It stuck on nicely the first day, and I didnt think about it again until I saw it coming up at one end (last 2 inches or so)

The paint also looked perfect the first day but this seems to have happened while it was on the car.

I'm still building the frame for it. It would have been done sooner, but my Jeep decided it needed it's dana 30 front axle rebuilt as well as the 247 transfer case. So, that's my project for now. As soon as I get those two done, I will go back to fun things like building my spoiler.

Go Here: Mugen 3pc from 2G Forums for pics of the 3 pc. See post #4 and #12 for pics of what it looks like on a 2G (that's what I'm replicating for my 3G) I think it's a classier looking lip spoiler and worth the time...

I'm using these pics as my basis and creating the basic shape out of foam. Then I'll glass and finish the whole thing. I'll send pics of the final completed spoiler when I finish. I have a lot going on right now between work, kids, family and that damn Jeep, so I only have a few hours here and there for projects each week and the Jeep is winning for now. My poor TL is out in the driveway until I get the Jeep fixed....
