Door rattle help please
Door rattle help please
3 months of ownership, and 3 new rattles. Fixed the center speaker one thanks to search here, but can't find the solution to this one.
Two rattles on either door -- seems to be coming from the right lower quandrant panel (the one that the running light is in) and sounds like vinyl contact (a kind of sticky rattle) that goes away (i think -- hard to do while driving) when i reach over and press up against that part of the door. can't tell where contact is coming from -- don't think it's with the storage bin and already removed the sunglasses holder. thinking of jamming something between the panel and the armrest, but can't think of what to try. make something lubricating? a shim? or should i take something apart?
anyone have this fix?

I have the same problem
I have a 2005 TL and just this summer my passenger door started rattling! It's extremely aggravating and I know mine is coming from the storage thing in the door, because when i press on it, the rattle goes away. If anyone has any ideas please let us know!! It would be greatly appreciated.
if it's the bin on yours, first make sure nothing's in it. then try to take out the sunglasses holder (there's a lever and then it just lifts out) and then adding some padding on the point of contact where the bin closes shut.
mine is not coming from the bin itself -- it's from the panel next to it.

I had a rattle in my door that I had a hell of a time tracking down. I tried all the fixes posted here.. nada..
Eound it by accident .. was sitting waiting for the wifette one day and I rolled the window up and noticed that when it hit the top it pushes the whole frame up with it .. distorting it. I had noticed the rattle was gone when the window was down even 1/8". I got out and started looking closer ... I had tried the DIY of removing the inside trim and adding foam/felt with no luck. It turns out it was the shiny black plastic trim that runs along the top of the window frame on the outside. I just pulled it loose and sprayed lythium grease in there .. 95% gone so I did more around that area .. walla .. gone!!!!
That small plastic on plastic was making it sould like the whole door was rattling from different places at different times ..

I don't keep anything in the bin on that side, so I know it's not that. I've taken the sunglasses holder out and it still rattles. What kind of padding do you recommend? Are you thinking some kind of felt or something. Quite honestly, I don't want to screw up the clean look of the car by adding crap to it to stop it from rattling (for the price I like to think it shouldn't rattle at all!!).
Has anyone taken this to the dealer? If so, what was the outcome.
Here's another odd question...why is it only the passenger side when I usually don't have anyone riding in the car?!?
Door rattle fixed!!
i took a closer look at the source of my rattle -- again, it seemed to be coming from the vinyl panel in the lower right corner of the passenger seat (the one with the floor light in it). applying pressure to that while driving (a bit tricky to do when driving!) silenced it.
i was able to pinpoint that the rattle was coming from contact at the upper left corner of this panel and the armrest. i jammed a dime in between it and the door armrest (need to open the storage bin to access this point of contact) and now it's quiet!!
two major rattles fixed... hmmm, now i'm hearing some other, albeit much more subtle rattles that i'll have to tackle...

i have pictures, though i think my description should make sense.
somebody talk me through how to post pictures that are on my computer. i'd like to avoid having to dump them on photobucket -- is that the only way?
