Angry Door opening inside handle, NOT WORKING

2004 Acura TL (98,450 miles)
This is crazy but, Recently, at random times opening the Drivers door by using the manually operated inside handle is hit or miss.
sometimes it works normally, at other times pulling the handle does not work.
I tried to troubleshoot this by using the keyfob remote and cycling the lock on off locked/ open. At times this locked/unlocked cycling seems to “fix” this problem???
I know that I can remove the door panel and check the connection cable that connects the handle and the lock assembly.
However, if the cable is not functional then it would not operate at random times, correct?

Has anyone else experienced this strange occurrence?
If so what’s the explanation and what can do I do to repair this crazy lock problem.
Thanks,
Joe

Pull it off, take a pic and report back, that's the only way we can solve this

clip on the cable is broken/loose allowing for excessive play. new cable is a few dollars with clip, takes 20 mins to do.

I immediately thought that the clip holding the metal stake to the door handle is broken and so the stake can move around. Could explain the randomness; sometimes it's aligned well enough that it seats when you pull the handle, but other times it doesn't and it's like yanking on a wet paper towel.

It's not a terribly difficult repair, but dicking around inside the door with the locks and cables is never a fun proposition unless you enjoy contortions and creative swearing.

See this post and the next handful where he buys the cable for a few dollars:
