get a trans dipstick from junkyard or dealer
you can add fluid thru the dipstick hole if needed
read owner book for proper warming drive and checking procedure

a couple of seconds? that's not right. Give us more info, year / mileage... I find it strange that there was no dipstick. It's like the dealer doesn't want to smelling or looking at the ATF. Did you buy this from Acura / Lemon Lot / Private Party?

Take a look at the tranny case as well and look for signs of a leak. If it's real bad the leak will leave marks down your chassis / exhaust.

Carfax and Autocheck only know what's reported. There are a lot of vehicles on the road that have been salvaged or been in wrecks that are not reported because there was no insurance claim. If there is significant lag when shifting to reverse then the hydraulic pressure to your clutch is poor or hopefully it may just be your shift cable but it may more than likely be your servo valve that's engaging your reverse gear which is where the delay is occuring.

Do you notice a lag accelerating / increasing throttle? [eg. hit the gas.. a couple second lag before engaging?]. 35k miles is pretty low but I would do a 3x3 on it. Especially since you don't know how it was driven before you obtained ownership. The ATF dipstick inlet is small and recessed so I would shy away from trying to top off if indeed the fluid is low. I don't know your mechanical intuition but I would take it into Acura or a good tranny shop that specializes in Honda / Acura and have it diagnosed, then get back to us.

nope sorry my problem is from park into reverse. it only does it in reverse gear.

and no when i stomp on the gas it kicks back hard and takes off. all gears are smooth as butter. so it seems that other people are having the same issue? i do feel good about doing the 3x3 just that fluid is so dag expensive. dont want to take it to a tranny shop cuz i know they will want to rebuild it. will low tranny fluid cause this same issue?

correct me if I'm wrong but low fluid would decrease the hydraulic pressure causing a lag before gear engages but I think it would have a similar effect when going into drive. You may want to adjust your shift cable and see if that helps. Z1 is expensive.. especially for when doing a 3x3.. I would at the minimum check the ATF condition but if the throttle is spot on, then I doubt it's sludging.

well remember that when i first drive it when cold it does not do it. but regardless iam going to do the z1 fluid change anyways. i just wanted to know if anyone else experianced my same issue to see if i needed to throw on a new tranny
