Dead battery? Bad starter? Alternator dying?

This morning my car started perfect and always has since the day I purchased it a few months back. When I got back from work I go to start it insert key turn key and lose all power. I tried jumper cables but the car would only click. Decided to take the battery and get it tested. Battery reader showed it needed charge. Battery date is May 2014

Received my battery back in 1hr after a charge. Installed and car turned on just fine.

What can be going wrong? I know I didn't leave anything on like a light or something and it never has shown any symptoms of anything.

I've read a few threads that the starter can be the cause. I can change it myself but that thing is real expensive.

Any ideas or help would be great appreciated.

A failing HFL unit has been fairly common on the 3G TL. One of the symptoms is a parasitic draw on the battery. You can search here on AZ and you will find the fix tons of info. Fixes range from component fixes on the PCB, simply disconnecting the HFL or full replacement.

Again this isn't absolutely your issue but something to definitely check out.

It is possible to have a bad battery too..

I bought a new battery from Oriellys just this spring.. it lasted 2 months.. So I took the battery back to Oriellys, and they tested it, and they said.. hmmmm.. Its bad. So, they gave me a new one.. no charge. And I have not had any problems all summer.

HFL won't cause the car not to start when jumped ... It will drain the battery but it should start when jumped if thats it. More likely bad ground or starter.
