"D" light on the dash blinkng 2004 TL.

I was on the highway and I slid the gear to tiptronic to overtake a car, when I exited, I forgot to take it out of manual and I came to a red light. When we set off I realized that it was accelerating faster than I intended. My radio was quite loud since my AC was blasting so I couldn't hear the engine, I looked down and I saw the revs were around 5500-6000 rpms and doing about 50mph, still stuck in 2nd gear(like it should if you don't shift it manually). I know for sure that I didn't hit the limiter but I was driving it like that for about a quarter mile or more but I slid it back to auto and shifted just fine even after coming to other complete stops and shifting all the way up to 5th(in auto mode). When I arrived at my destination about 3 miles down, I realized the D light was blinking. I've forgotten to shift it from 2nd but I always catch it in about 100 yards. My transmission has been shifting up and down fine before this and no lags whatsoever. I checked my fluid levels and they were fine and with no metal filings. I searched the threads and couldn't find someone who had done the same. I found threads of people saying change the pressure switches or flush the ATF. Is my transmission going bad? Did it throw the code because it thought that it was stuck in 2nd gear for that long? Please help, I'm a college student, I've owned the car for about a month and any major repairs would cripple me.

2004 TL Nav, 132xxx miles.

Sorry to say, but that blinking D is not a good sign! Usually means a problem with the transmission. You may want to try to change the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches as well as a 3X3 of tranny fluid, also there is an external filter on the'04's for the tranny, that probably hasn't been changed. I am not saying this is a fix, but others have reported that it has helped possibly save the tranny. Search for tranny threads, and look for member "I Hate Cars" posts on the subject.

Go to autozone, etc and see if there are stored codes. Post codes here. Reset and continue to drive and see if you get flashing D again.

Even though it's an older car I had, my 1992 Accord did that to me one time. Since your car is also a Honda and problem indicators haven't changed too much, when I go home tonight I can look through all the service records I have still stuck in a file to find the cause. Maybe that'll give you some insight as well, I hope...

I will go to my Local transmission shop tomorrow to get it checked out. By the time I got out of school, it was late and all the shops near me were closed. I nearly shat my pants when I saw a Pearl White TL, exactly like mine, parked at one of tranny garages, I really hope mine doesn't end up there. But I drove it about 30 miles(20 hwy 10 city), the light had stopped blinking and it didn't seem to act weird at all. I checked the tranny fluid with a clean white cloth and it was as pink as it can be. I'm really hoping that the blinking was related to my stupid tiptronic gaffe and not a major repair.

The light had stopped blinking, I went to Autozone and the guy couldn't get any codes stored on there, he said if it's a transmission issue, the OBD-I computer wouldn't show it. I really hope it wasn't a major problem.

This same problem happend to me a couple of months ago, my (D) light started blinking, tranny was fine but after driving it for a couple of days my transmission died on me. I would bring it to your local mechanic or dealership to check it out right away..

Here is a DIY for the switches were talking about......has part #'s as well. We have vendors on the site that can get them cheaper than the dealer, or ask your dealer to price match?

Get the codes read. They will tell you all that you need to know.

I looked at the invoice for my old car and then did some looking in my maintenance manual for my current car...it could be anything from a $30 sensor, shorted circuit, bad solenoid(s), torque converter clutch, etc...

Like everyone else said already, get the transmission codes!
