Custom Cup Holder Sliders

Custom Cup Holder Sliders
Saw that it's pretty common for the cup holder slider on the center console to break, and that once it starts breaking, even if you fix it, it's only going to break some more. Mine just broke yesterday.
So has anyone ever tried making a custom one instead of buying the whole cup holder assembly as replacement? Must be something that could be done.
If you did, post some pics!

Tried 3d printing one in TPU, but it was too stiff and I couldn't get the "hooks" to print well. My 3d printer also is too short to be able to print it long enough. If anyone wants to dabble around with the 3d file I could probably send it to them - I'm definitely not the greatest 3d modeler.

You mind sending me the files? Not the best either but id like to take a shot 👍

There's another thread on here where a guy recommended this cover from eBay for a 05-09 Range Rover Sport. I bought the same thing, trimmed a little off and it works perfect. Seems like the cheapest fix.

Go to a junk yard and get one before they are all gone.
Do you guys close your cup holders? Why, to store your cell phone on them? Thats a main reason why they fail. I have five cup holders that have never broken because I never close the cup holder gate. Only removed the cup holders to grease the tracks and lube the cup holder rubber ribs. You dont want to be that guy with a scraped up center console aluminum runners and a ghetto cup holder.
For the aluminum runners, dont store anything in the center where the gear shifter is. I've had my original TL for north of 9 years and the aluminum runners have not a scratch or blemish.

Not trying to be a dick , but why would you store your phone in a space thats for your cups lol ,
thats why they have phone holders you can mount your phone on ,
second the car was bought like and im going into computer engineering, so i thought id take this up for a project (3D print wise)
But I honestly dont care what people say ,
if it messes up thats on me not like id blame people who are just trying to give advice and some other possible work arounds ,
And Just because you dont close your cup holder kudos to you bro 👍 but i would like a replacement for something that was broken when the car was first purchases over 5 years ago 👍
so really was just trying to see what other ideas if any , anybody had just to see what people have done
and with 3D printing it seemed like a cool idea to get into

You guys just need the sliding cover?

I actually ordered one before, but it turns out I thrown out the guide and never could use the new cover.

I don't remember an exactly, but maybe like 4-5 of the little sections. Not much. Just size it up to the OEM one if you still have it, better off cutting less and test fitting it then cutting more. Literally cut it with scissors from my kitchen, it was very easy. You should have no issues with it.
Honestly think I closed mine maybe 5 times since I bought the car and never put anything on it. Just noticed it broken one day 🤷♂️.
